One awesome game.

As you know, we lived in West Branch Iowa for a long time. We never missed many games after moving to Illinois. Jon still keeps in touch and Jason announces the games for the Bears.

Well last night I saw one of the best game in the State. It would be hard for another game to provide the excitement that this one did, 5 lead changes and a final score of 21-20 on a 2-point play after touchdown, with only 37 seconds to play. After breaking the goal line Jones fumbled the ball but it was 2 points and a win for Bears

Only problem is, it was 4th and 9 with 1:37 left on the clock when I headed to my vehicle. I missed the heroic comeback of the Bears. They went 80 yards in one minute including 2 conversions on 4th downs.

West Liberty has a good team and will be in the hunt in all their games this year.

Denison v. Harlan in week 0 was a great game.

Yes I'm Jon's father. When Jon's site was a premium site I posted much more than I do now so guess I rather took for granted most knew the "Papahawk" significance. Since the site is free I should have know many wouldn't realize it.

I've been asking myself why I left as well, especially since the coach & I are such good friends. 4th and 9 with less than a minute and 1/2 and 80 yards to go had something to do with. As well W. Liberty had been a stingy defense.

This may be 1/A-2/A football but it was, as I said an awesome game. Not many teams in Iowa have a better record over the past 20 years than West Branch.

Well, pleased to make your acquaintance, papahawk! Would you care to share a few stories of Jon's exploits on the gridiron, from back in his West Branch glory days? :)

Interesting - JD's about 38, record got really good in the past 20 years. I wonder why that is. Thanks for the info, Mr. Miller. And one other thing, Mr. Miller, JD doesn't go by Jon anymore. There is a guy on ESPN named Jon Miller and he pretty much sucks at life, so your boy is now JD Miller.

Feeble math skills allow me to infer they got really good after JD had moved on? :)

IIRC way back in the day JD's brother used to post on his old Rivals site under the name of Pennyhawk.

As a matter of fact, the year we moved to Illinois was the 1st year W.B. made it to the playoffs, losing in the 1st round. Jon was a tall skinny kid weighing about a buck 50 at best. Great hands and could catch everything in the area code. Too bad he didn't have more speed.

I will refrain from telling more stories. However the last game he played was in Princeton Illinois. He had 10 receptions in that game. His best.

As you can see, he loves football and especially the Hawkeyes.

That was a long time ago when "Penny Hawk was used.

If you get the opportunity to hang out with papahawk during a bowl game...seize the opportunity. You won't regret it. It won't take you long to realize where Jon got his passion for Iowa sports from.
