This is a very inconvenient truth when people say that “Iowa is just always Iowa” done in by small population, bad geography, bad weather and no recruiting base. Those are all facts, but with the correct people in leadership, anything is possible, including being a national power. (Goes for b-ball too)
I’m not saying go fire Kirk, because it’s way easier to slide to Nebraska levels than elevate to Wisconsin, however inconvenient truths still remain.

our football program was pretty much on par with or better than; Wisconsin, Clemson, USC, Georgia, Baylor, and LSU.
Their tail lights look nice now........... sigh.
Feel free to list any others I have missed.
Wisconsin, and Baylor, maybe. All the others? Not since Evashevski, if even then.

Clemson has been a very consistently great program throughout their history. No 20 year spirals. Only a couple then a great coach steps in.

I’ve followed Georgia since Kirk was hired and they pretty much mirrored each other. Typical 8-4 teams with an occasional nine win season. Then they got rid of their Kirk-like coach and hired an Alabama assistant who has elevated their program. That was just a few years ago not forty years.
USC was also flat for more than a decade almost two decades until they made the right hire and then that program flourished (granted with the help of illegal recruiting) before their coach moved onto the NFL.

Wow, just wow. You are crazy to compare Iowa's resources with those you listed. Clemson, USC, Georgia and LSU are all giants that were being run by total inept people. None of those schools have to go further than 100 miles from campus to recruit superior talent. Probably 50 miles, I don't know. Just look at the recruiting rankings to see how many 4 and 5 star recruits are from each state and get back with me.
Baylor is in Texas. But you really want to compare us to Baylor? Their best win this year is probably Iowa State, a win that all Ferentz detractors overlook. So come with someone else.
Wisconsin is and has been our best comparison. They are pretty much Iowa North, as their program as well as ours came from the same roots. Can we beat them? Sure we can. And it will happen. But they have had our number lately, and they have been able to get some talent there that we havent been able to get. They do have some advantages in resources, but we can compete with them and we will.
If you havent noticed, there are a lot of changes going on in the Iowa program, so dont give up yet. Recruiting has definitely taken the next step, and there is every reason to believe that we have as good if not better coaching staff than ever. I still think we can get better with OL coaching, but overall our schemes are sound.
I will leave with this though. If you are all about comparing, compare our program with:

Notre Dame
Tennessee
Miami
Florida State
UCLA
Let me know how we stack up with them ok?

You apologist always play the same lame card. If it is all that easy to get top recruits from fifty miles from their campus then why were these programs down in the first place? Did they move their stadiums magically. It plain and simple its the coaching that changed one way or the other. Why has LSU gone from a mediocre SEC teams to playing for a third NATIONAL title? Did they move their campus suddenly closer to these superior recruits?
Same with Georgia. Over the last twenty years under their previous coach they would have teams that were and weren’t ranked in the top twenty-five. Very similar to Kirk. Yes there are a lot more recruits because close by maybe thousands but they can only recruit like twenty every year out of those thousands. It’s called an airplane. It’s called recruiting trips. It’s called getting off your fat cat ass and making it happen.
Three numbers over 60, 15, and zero. Over sixty million in Kirk’s bank account over the last fifteen years with ZERO conference championships.
I am not some Johnny come lately fan Iowa fan. Suffered through the Commings years in the mid-seventies. I want to hope your right that recruiting is picking up and that the program is on the rise. No we’re suppose to believe that somehow the University of Wisconsin has discovered the magic potion.
My comment about what if our defense ranked as bad as our offense the last ten years is dead on correct. Something has got to change with our offensive schemes, offensive recruiting, or offensive coaching. Only a putz would think otherwise. Two NFL tight ends, a Future NFL quarterback, and supposedly one of the best lines in college football last year and how did that work out for us last year???
I want to see us get a shot at a highly ranked or recognized team in our bowl game and get the win. Then I will feel a little better. It’s been hard today to watch these games today and not ever being able to cheer for Iowa for a CONFERENCE title. UNTIL that happens there is no chance of EVER doing anything g better. Some I know don’t care even though they claim to be Iowa fans. They say we can’t but I refuse to believe that. Maybe as long as the the same ole same ole continues in Iowa City then possible those fans are correct.
I find it hard to concede and say we are little ole Iowa and we NEVER can.

Every school mentioned, including Wisconsin, has a better level of talent available to them. Our recruiting has improved and I believe is still going to keep moving upward. We are starting to get more 4 star recruits than we used to. Our coaches have done a great job evaluating talent. Seems like every time we offer a kid, other schools jump in immediately because they respect our evaluations. I bet you that’s why we slow play some kids we identify just so they will get overlooked and we snag them up late in the process. Iowa does it’s homework.

Iowa is steadily above avg but they need to get their coaching asses in gear on the offensive side of the ball.
Iowa has been better than USC for the last 5 years, Baylor is a recent scum school and like someone said played a not that tough schedule. I would like to see Baylor play in the Big 10 East with crossovers against Wisky and Iowa.

Ironically, people are starting to leave California in droves. The Midwest is is gonna see an uptick in population soon. Overpopulation, crime, expensive cost of living, high taxes, crazy liberals, are driving them out and in our direction. My aunt lived in California for 50 years and she couldn’t stand it any longer. She is now retired in West Des Moines and very happy.

I laugh at the Nebraska fans that thought they were going to come in to the Big Ten and just route it. So I agree with your point and use the cornhuskers as prime exhibit A............. or in Nebraska’s case an F for failure.

The same thing is happening in Utah. Unfortunately it’s been driving hone prices through the roof. The home I owned in Geogia was $169,000 and would sell here in Utah for $375,000 within a day of being listed. Still it beats California where the Georgia hone would sell for $800,000. Your point is well taken.
If you don't think it's an advantage to have 20 4/5 stars grow up fans of LSU as opposed to 1 or maybe 2 (on a good year) 4 stars grow up as Iowa fans, you're crazy. Of course those programs have a huge advantage. That advantage doesn't guarantee they will be awesome every year. It just guarantees that their good will be better than our good, their average will be better than our average, and their bad will be better than our bad. Your "moving the stadium" comment makes no sense what's so ever. Come on man. Do you really not understand that if the state had 25 4/5 stars every single year that were dreaming of playing for iowa their whole lives, it wouldn't be a huge advantage?
