Can your favorite recruit the student-athlete that will be successful at IOWA? The requirements in the SEC, Conf USA, MV, Big 12,Big East, aren't necessarily comparable to the standards in the B10, Iowa specifically. In reading the Memphis message boards, the big question is how many of the recruits are going to be eligible. Legit variable in the equation, I think. The fact that Lute recommended Pastner is the main reason I wouldn't be opposed to him, but it still begs the question. Baylor, A&M, Memphis, TN. UTEP, Dayton....Not one of these have the standards we do. Vandy, Purdue, MSU, Providence......probably yes.

It's not that hard to get into the University of Iowa if you are an athlete. Obviously you need to have taken the proper high school courses and have scored at least an 18 on your ACT. Prop 48 kids can qualify as well but lots of coaches avoid them because you have to sit them out the first year while they maintain set academic standards.

Athletes don't get reviewed like the general public to get into 95% of schools.

The last I heard Iowa was not hard to get athlete's into. You make Iowa seem like Harvard, Northwestern, Princeton, or Yale.

Iowa is not that prestigeous academically..... Are you telling me ALL the atheletes on the campus had like 3.3 GPA's with 24 ACT scores in High School. You are crazy.

I'd be willing to bet that most students on campus didn't do that well in HS. As a current student at the UI, I've met quite a few people on campus that probably didn't do 3.3 and 24. Hell, I was 3.6 and 24 (totally bombed on the science lol), but I know I'm quite a bit smarter than a lot of people I've met up in Iowa City.

2.38 HS GPA
25 ACT
Did not take SAT

Got in to Iowa.

In state you need a 2.5 gpa and an 18 on your ACTs out of highschool.

Iowa is kind of a joke to get into.

University of Washington up here I believe the incoming freshman average gpa is around 3.5.

Now that would be a hard public school to get athletes into.

Shall we talk about some of the eligibility casualties, starting with Anthony Tucker. Wasn't Josh Smith borderline? Shon Green mean anything to anyone? Had a few other fballers go to ICCC. Who was the PG from Waterloo under Alford? K. Smith? We could go on for days guys.

IT may not be hard to get into, but Iowa DOES require a little more from student-athletes, than do most BCS schools (especially outside the Big 10)

when i was an applicee(?) they used some kind of points system like GPA of 2.0 = 50 points ACT of 18 = 50 points and you needed to have 120 points to even be considered (let in)...

Not to turn this into a Pastner thread, but he has apparently also made no secret of his desire to coach in the NBA.
