Ok...cut to the chase

For real, if Iowa takes care of business there is a good chance we end up in the top 4 seeds somewhere. OSU winning is also a good thing for us, generally, since we swept them and that helps us with any multiple team tie-breakers.

Pur-MSU game cuts both ways. If it goes one way we have a better shot at the 3 seed. If it goes other, it helps us with the 4 seed.

Honestly, best thing is for us to just take care of our own business.

Basically you should wait until tomorrow to figure it all out. The Purdue/Michigan State game has almost too many implications for Iowa. There are reasons to root for either team to win tonight so I'm just not going to watch it. :)

The simplest way to look at it is that if Purdue beats Michigan State tonight and Iowa beats Northwestern then Iowa gets a double bye. However, Purdue beating Michigan State means Iowa can't get the 3 seed, only a 4 seed.

Iowa can get a 3 seed if Michigan State beats purdue tonight and then both Purdue and Michigan State lose this weekend against Illinois and Indiana. Possible but not probable.

You should be rooting for both Purdue and Mich St to both lose. Sounds impossible, but that is what you should be rooting for.

It really depends on what you want to see in the quarterfinals.

If you simply want Iowa to get one of the double byes and don't care if we play Wisconsin in the quarters as a #4 seed, then root for Purdue. At that point, we essentially lock up the #4 seed....assuming a win against NW.

If, however, you are willing to risk getting the #5 seed in order to have a shot at the #3 seed and avoid Wisconsin in the quarterfinals, then root for MSU tonight and then for Indiana to beat MSU and Illinois to beat Purdue on Saturday.

Root for Purdue and OSU tonight. If they both win, the only way we don't get the bye (assuming we win) is if MSU, Purdue, and Wisconsin all win this weekend.

If we lose Saturday, the worst we can do is a 6 seed, and that would only happen if OSU wins out.

See this is why it's too weird at this point to worry about it. Just hope Iowa wins.

If we do that the only way we miss the double bye is if Mich St. beats Purdue and wins at Indiana AND Purdue beats Illinois AND Ohio St loses to either Penn St. or Wisc.

Yeah you're right. Its probably best to just wait until tomorrow to worry about it all. Even then it will probably still be confusing as hell

If Purdue beats Michigan State and Iowa wins against Northwestern they will have a double bye in the conference tournament. I'd like to see Purdue win.

I'd rather have the double bye AND get the #3 seed. So I will be rooting for Michigan State tonight. And then Indiana and Illinois on Saturday.

I'm cheering for Purdue. I don't like MSU. I want the double bye. And I want to play Wisconsin on Saturday of the BTT.

Side Note - I also think Purdue is a different team than in the non conference season and should be in the NCAA Tournament...playing better than Illinois, MSU and Indiana IMO. Beat MSU and Illinois and they should be in good shape.

Seed scerario for Iowa IF they beat NW:

3 seed - PU loses to MSU and Illinois + MSU loses to Indiana

4 seed - MSU loses to either PU OR Indiana. Or if MSU wins out, PU must lose to Illinois.

Why Wisconsin on Saturday? I feel like 3 worn down teams playing their 3rd game in 3 days will make it more of a close game.

Here is an interesting way to look at it. We need 3 games to go exacty our way to get the 3 seed. But we also need those 3 games to go exactly the wrong way to not get a double bye.

When you factor in the fact that OSU can still keep us off the 5 seed by winning out even if those 3 games all go wrong, the odds of us getting a 3 seed are better than us getting a 5. All assuming we win Saturday of course.

Say you play Wisconsin at Noon on Saturday and you lose. You can go back to Iowa City after the game, take a day off Sunday, watch the selection show with your teammates in Iowa City that night, and then have 3 or 4 days preparation for your next opponent. If you play Wisconsin on Sunday at 2:30pm, you're probably sticking around Indy to watch the selection show, then getting back into Iowa City late at night and meeting on Monday to practice right away and start preparing for your Thursday/Friday game.

Don't get me wrong, playing on Sunday would be completely awesome, and that would mean the Hawkeyes are completely on fire more than they are right now....but does the first option really sound so bad?

That's why I'd rather play Wisconsin on Saturday. If you beat them you're probably going up a seed higher in the NCAA tournament regardless and you have a decent shot at the Big Ten Championship. However, if you lose to them on Saturday you get an extra day of rest before the real tournament starts. I say go all out against the Badgers on Saturday and if it doesn't work out then in the grand scheme of things its not a big deal.

I agree with Windsor. I think Iowa and MD are playing the best. So, I'd rather have 4th seed and have a chance to play both MSU and WUs. We have motivation against both of them and MD has motivation against us.
