Is there anything in sports more annoying than Bruce Weber standing there with his arms out and his mouth wide open staring in disbelief after not getting a call?

illinois is going to lose by 20+ at home in a must-win game! they jacked up 24 threes! fire weber! his system will never succeed in the big ten! he doesn't recruit good enough players!
in all seriousness, it seems that right now in the big ten there is the big four of msu, purdue, ohio state and wisconsin, and then there is everyone else. i'm not sure how much of this is due to a lack of conference depth and how much of it is that those four teams are really, really good. i think all four will be in the sweet sixteen and three in the elite 8. purdue is going to be on the bubble for a one seed-- winning the big ten tourney would probably lock it up for them.

It is a lack of depth. The Big Ten did not live up to the expectations this season.

Not exactly. In most years, including this year, a couple of the teams in what you call the "everyone else" category are in serious contention for the NCAA tournament or will at least end up in the NIT.
In recent seasons that category has included various combinations of Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Penn State, and (for the NIT at least) Northwestern.
I'd kill to see Iowa ascend to that group of "everyone else."
Iowa and Indiana are the two teams that haven't even been a part of your "everyone else" category for years now. I think Indiana has a better set of excuses for that than we do, but the excuses don't really matter.

And nothing is quite like seeing the illini getting drubbed by 20 on their home court, really. Well, perhaps seeing the illini getting snubbed on selection sunday maybe.
Especially, on a day when the Iowa women beat the illini and get in to the upper division of the Big Ten.
