Ohio State Sanctions

Why is everyone, including their new head coach, so certain the NCAA isn't going to come down hard on OSU? USC got hammered with a two year bowl ban for not knowing about Reggie Bush's extra benefits, but the NCAA argued they should have known. Not only did Ohio State know about extra benefits, their head coach actively covered it up. What am I missing here?

Because USC was not sufficiently remorse. Mike Garrett went around on the circuit arrogantly defiant. With the penalty still looming, they hired Lane Kiffin who had his own set of issues with the NCAA brewing at Tennessee. OSU is creating the image that they are sorry and repentant. It's all in the packaging. Do they deserve to get a similar sanction - yes, but I just don't think it will be as harsh.

I think OSU shows they basically ushered the coach out the door...that is action on their part...USC didn't do that as Carroll got out of town before the posse got there...then USC went and hired a coach whose former program was under investigation for when he was there....that's wagging their faces in it.

I think OSU may get a bowl ban next year...and a few reduced scholarships...probably not what USC got....getting Tress out of there will be something big they can point to...plus suspended the Tat 5, and others...the USC stuff was wayyy after the fact

Ha! The TAT 5....I've never heard them referred as that before!

What you wrote makes sense Jon.

I guess I'm just ****** that a football program with NCAA sanctions on the horizon can hire a coach like Urban Meyer and get a committments from recruits like Tommy Schutt and Noah Spence. It's hard to compete with that.

They think nothing more will happen because they are Ohio State.
The arrogance that surrounds that program and their fanbase is amazing.
It shouldn't matter if they ushered Tressel out the door, he still knew and what I find amazing is that the University still fought to have Posey's suspensions reduced and fought so hard to get a ruling to play in the bowl game last year. The NCAA has already done OSU favors in this situation, so why would they think that there would be any more sanctions?
Hiring Meyer, who has never done anything wrong (throw up in my mouth), is their bold statement that they are on the path to being wholesome.

Because the NCAA is corrupt. Ohio State is dirty and "Took Care" of it. They should have a worse punishment then USC, but they won't.

It's really disgusting.
