Offensive Line per KF postgame

KF made some great comments about the state of the offensive line during his post game interview with Dolph and Ed. I will try to paraphrase but add to this or correct me: Dolph mentions that they are not playing their starting tackles and KF talks about Myers fighting thru some injuries so they hid him at guard and with Ike getting hurt the moved Welsh out to tackle. It sounds like they are going with Wirfs and Jackson now at tackle, Welsh back at guard which is his best position, of course Daniels at center, and the other guard spot might be up for grabs.

But we all know how this unit has to have stability and time so maybe it will settle down with two weeks of practice.

Maybe this isnt the fanciest of blocking scheme lines and they can be a good straight ahead blocking line trying to open a hole at a specific spot.

I'm curious to know if Wirfs will eventually take the left tackle spot from Jackson, or if he will stay at right until Jackson graduates.

if all things are equal, i think AJax has left tackle length. I like AJax at LT and CW at RT.

BTW, Wirfs is just the fourth true freshman to start on the offensive line in the KF era and the first to do so at tackle. Bulaga, Mike Jones and Daniels all started inside.

What are the odds Daniels is back next year? At the beginning of the year I would have said no chance. With the way our line is struggling tho, maybe he will be.

I would think he'll be back. I have a feeling we may see some improvement in line play this year, barring key injuries.

As of now, I think he comes back. He really likes the college experience.

Do you have a read on the family's input on the matter? Family values often dictates these decisions in my opinion. Iowa usually recruits kids with strong family values around graduation over pro aspirations.

He comes from a great family. His brother was one of the nicest kids I've covered here. His father played at Ohio State and in the NFL. I think James has great guidance to make the best decision.

Is Daniels grading out that spectacularly that you and others think he could go pro early? I hope he is but if you have some direct quotes or articles about Daniels progress/production and the other linemen please share because I would love to read it. The weekends are great for watching then discussing the hawks.

Lol....yup that was my assumption.

I haven't heard anything since the season started. Lots of hype before it is the reason I asked.

This is evident in the message of appreciation he gives to Hawk fans on the video boards. Loves being a Hawkeye and thankful.
