Everything has really already been said: This club doesn't deserve a bid going 1-7 against the top 5 teams in the league. This club has found ways to lose close games all year. Guard play was really poor. Officiating the last 10 minutes was brutal. Can't turn the ball over 17 times.
The biggest key for me was the numerous second chance opportunities MSU got. 14!!!! That killed this club. When you go through scoring droughts, you have to find a way to keep the other team from getting second and third looks. That is part of the reason Izzo's teams are always so good. They pound you physically. Most of the time literally. But they hang around like they did tonight because of their toughness and ability to find loose balls, grab offensive rebounds.
I am a big believer in the fact that this type of adversity makes this club better next year. If they continue to lose games like this next year, Caff will start taking some heat. This club has to get tougher. Make no mistake, Izzo's squad gets away with murder on a basketball court. But this club found a way to lose this game. And that has to change to take the next step. This club isn't far away. They just have to grow from these painful losses.
