Now that was an ugly half of basketball

It was almost like both teams were trying to see how many times they could turn the ball over.

I have faith that Fran will (eventually) get things turned around, but boy this year is going to be ugly.

I hate to say it, but I wouldn't be shocked if we didn't win a conference game this year.

We played well for about 2 minutes. Our offense is god awful right now. Our defense isn't much better. Way too many turnovers, and we still can't finish to save our lives. It's definitely going to be a long year. You can see little stretches of good play though, and they will keep improving throughout the year. Jordan Stoermer played well in the first half too, that was nice to see.

Odd game....Iowa now with our biggest lead of 35-22. 15:37 to go.

Problem is we have 14 turnovers and only 9 assists. Also 1/4 from the line.

Odds our we will get better as players get more experience but yeah, not winning a conference game wouldn't shock me.

I think in the first half there were some jitters and players were trying to do too much. We look like we are settled down more this half. They are starting to play a little better defense and marble has been impressing me. His defense has been creating turnovers plus he has been shooting pretty well. Our finishing around the rim is still horrible. Melsahn needs to put on some weight...he is getting nice looks but can't finish.

2nd half was much better. 68-40 final. The press caused a lot of problems for them. Marble was key on the top of the press. He also knocked down a couple 3's. Gatens will make this team much better. They need someone who will consistently hit the open shot. It will be a rough season for the W column, but i think they will look at lot better by mid season. I all i ask is they continue to improve.

I agree that we looked better in the second half, but let's not forget who we were playing. A depleted ULM team is not indicative of the level of competition we'll face for most of the season.

That being said, there was obvious improvement in our play, especially on defensive end of the floor. I also hope that we'll work on our lay-ups and get our offense on track.
I agree that the Hawks will be way ahead of where they are now by the end of the season, and that we'll be given some hope for better things next year.

It's just too bad that we seem to be starting out so far behind everyone else.

Cripes, what a bunch of complainers. What the heck do you expect in Fran's second game as coach?

A lot of these kids don't know how to play up and down the court basketball, having lived thru the Lickliter era. Give them some time. There were flashes of things coming together...pretty soon they won't be flashes anymore, it will be routine.

It is nice to see these kids going all out and having fun. There won't be a lot of wins this year...but they'll get there. Have patience.

At least fans won't fall asleep watching these kids play.
