Notre Dame v. WSU in San Antonio??

Anyone think this is a rediculously stupid idea? I understand ND wants to perpetuate the whole "we're special" thing, but playing a 1-9 Washington State team in the Alamodome does not seem to scream excitement. I simply cannot see a large number of people buying tickets to this game. Why people in S.A. would care about this game is a mystery.

Well San Antonio is one of the biggest cities in America w/o a pro team...and they don't have a big time D1 program...but heres my conspiracy theory...they are launching their play on Latinos in the US...they have a natural draw with the Catholic church ties, Latinos in the US, as they asssimilate, are going to start playing american football and start watching more football, also, as their median incomes rise they will continue to become a more powerful economic force...ND is getting out in front on this one

I saw that and was really confused as well...did either team give up a home game for that? That's not really even a central location; in fact, that's a heck of a trip for the Wazzu team.

Hope they make it worth their while! (Sorry Irish fans!)

Only thing I can say to the people in San Antonio about this game is " Sorry about your luck " you just got suckered. LOL.

I am no Notre Dame fan, but I know what the thinking is, and it kind of makes a little sense.

Like it or not, ND has a national following. No one thinks of them as an Indiana team - their following is and always will be coast to coast. So why not play a neutral site game smack in the middle of prime recruiting territory? They know it's going to be on TV no matter what (NBC), they know they are going to sell lots of tickets, so why not? Even if their gate isn't quite as much as they would get at a real home game, ND is definitely NOT hurting for $$$.

check out their 2010 schedule. only three true away games. (other games not at ND at a neutral site).

I am hoping the WSU is gong to show up and cover the spread. ND giving 27 1/2 points. Go Cougars......cover the spread.....only lose by 27 points!

Exactly. Notre Dame has only pulled about 5 athletes out of the state of Texas in the last 5 years. Why not give up a home game and attempt to create a new pipeline? Seems like a brilliant move to me.

explain to me how playing one game against a garbage opponent creates a "new pipeline". Its not like they are building a secondary campus down there or something.

Because you are showcasing your program for fans in the state of Texas. Everyone knows Texas and Florida two of the best High School football states. It might not create a pipeline but why not take a chance? 5 recruits from Texas in 5 years is not enough.
