Northwestern: yikes

After watching the fourth quarter replay of the Northwestern-Michigan game I fear that the Hawks may get diced up this weekend.

As much as I'd like to see the Hawks slap Northwestern I do not think that is likely. Northwestern is FAST on both sides of the ball, and Iowa is not. Northwestern is deadly with the 5-10 yard pass plays and we all know how well Iowa defends the short pass.

Sadly, I see this one ending 34-10 in Northwestern's favor unless the Iowa coaching staff draws up a great game plan, in which case I will be pleasantly surprised and rejoicing with the rest of Hawkeye Nation in the upset of Iowa's Goliath.

I think everyone should start their own thread on if this game scares them or not along with their predictions.

NW may very well score 34, but if Iowa only puts up 10 they should probably drop football as a scholarship sport.

You figured this out by watching 1 quarter against a questionable defense in which they didn't score a single point? This whole place has gone ******* crazy.

Northwesterns defense is not good, they are last in the conference is pass defense, if Vandy and Company cant get it going against these guys we wont win another game.

After you watch that ONE quarter, why don't you go back and watch the 4th quarter of the Pitt game.

No **** yikes. Iowa Defense is in trouble and if Iowa's offense isn't clicking we are really, really in trouble.

Meaningless unless Kirk lets KOK open up the offense. If the Hawks run the same stale, predictable gameplan....they lose.

This!! Iowa's offense needs to open it up Saturday Night, if they don't we lose by double digits with ease..

I'm not confident about Saturday's game, but it has nothing to do with how Northwestern looked in the fourth quarter against Michigan. I don't really understand why that particular quarter of play worried the OP.

I have no confidence because we will no doubt come out and play our soft zone coverage. Persa will pick us apart like usual with the 5 and 10 yard passes, and we will make zero adjustments just like always. What we should do is come out and play man. Nielsen should be on the sidelines. Prater, Hyde, and Lowery can all play man. Put Castillo on their weakest WR if need be, but we should be playing man coverage against NW. If we don't I just don't see us winning. I will no doubt be annoyed the entire game watching us play soft zone coverage. It truly makes no sense to do that against a team like NW with a hyper-accurate QB like Persa.

On offense we should work out of the shotgun/no huddle the entire game, and pick apart their weak secondary. Unfortunately, knowing Kirk we will try and establish a power running game, which will prove ineffective. Last week really, really destroyed any confidence I had in our offense. Not because of the players, we have plenty of talent, but because the playcalling will not allow us to play to our strengths. We should be throwing downfield early and often, and let McNutt and Davis make plays. Unfortunately, I see a repeat of last week where we don't air it out at all, and try to establish the run when it clearly isn't working. Some people on here are trying to make themselves feel better by saying "hey, it's PSU on the road, they have a good defense", but they are completely ignoring the giant flaws in our strategies against PSU. PSU never should have put up almost 400 yards of offense, and they never should have held us to 3 points. That is not a reflection on the team, it's a reflection on the coaching.

I will be at the game cheering my butt off for the Hawks like usual, but I have no confidence that we will win until the coaching proves me wrong.

The officials won't overlook the QB getting his helmet ripped off if its Iowa and not Michigan doing it.

Just happened to catch the end of that game, and I was aware that Michigan outscored them, but Iowa's O is not Michigan.

Even though NW was outscored, they were still extremely fast against a fast Michigan O and as usual looked good with their short 5-10 yard pass plays.

I honestly don't understand these game predictions. One person says we lose by a ton, and the next says we kill them. It's plain to see nobody knows what they're talking about. I don't know why anyone would predict a game after seeing the Jekyll and Hyde (not Micah) that Iowa has shown itself to be.

Yeah we should just wait til the game is over to talk about it. Never understood these comments. This is a message board, they're full of opinion. Some good (Mine) some not so good (The OP). Some in jest (see previous sentence)
