Northwestern Football = Chicago Cubs

Since Northwestern hasn't won a bowl game since 1949 and the Cubs haven't won a World Series since 1908, I'm thinking the futility is on par. Considering Northwestern (in it's bowl game) isn't playing the best another league has to offer, winning should be considerably easier. Yet the inability to get the monkey off their back continues year after year.

Can you imagine going 62 years without winning a bowl game in your football program. I think this monkey is so big, NW just starts peeing down their legs in pregame warm ups.

not sure you can compare winning the World Series to winning the Ticketcity bowl or whatever lame bowl jNW goes to.

Exactly, that's why I would argue that NW streak is considerably more futile and should go down as one of the worst performance records in modern sports history.

They can't win the Midas "pull your muffler out of your arse" Bowl.

Actually, bince in my book, the Rose Bowl is the prize for squads in the B10, I would say Iowa football is a lot like the Cubs. The fans will pay outlandish prices for the product no matter how crappy it is, continually look to next year and have delusions of grandeur. I would say the 'Cats are more like the Brewers - cheap tickets that are hard to give away for at least half of the games, a reliance on opposing fans to fill their stadium and an occasional decent season that comes around once in a blue moon on the rare occasion when the team has 2 good players.

Sorry, Brewers won a playoff series this year. Comparison with NW is now null and void! :)

And, no one (and I mean no one) is comparable to the Cubs. In more ways than one, the Cubs are in a class by themselves (and one no one else wants to be in that class). :D

All I really care about is titles won since I've been following the sport. I'm a Cubs fan...but I don't think I would feel much better if the Cubs had won WS titles in 1957, or 1969, or 1975 or whenever. I'd still be ****** that I had never witnessed one with my own eyes.

Bowl games are over hyped in my opinion.

Good comparison.
NW is led by the NW version of the Cubs clown college of managers. One season the Cubs rotated managers weekly...Fitz would have fit right in.
The Cubs did win the NL pennant in 1945, with most real men at war.
Kind of like those recent Big Ten titles won by NW...in down years for the league.

I suspect that elusive bowl win will elude the Cats as long as Fitz the choker is at the helm...which probably will be another 30 years...whats a 100 year bowl losing streak to the Cats/Cubs? Just another century in the life of a Cats/Cubs fan. Ho-hum.

Actually, a BCS Bowl game should be the goal of every Big Ten Squad. I believe that means you have had a great season. That being said, Iowa last won a BCS bowl game a few years ago...so I don't believe you can compare the them to the Cubs futility in the postseason. NW, however, continues to lose every postseason game they play...it's uncanny. I believe there must be a goat in this equation somehere.

Think about this...Indiana has won 3 bowl games in this same timeframe. Indiana. I'm pretty confident that makes Northwesterns feat seem even more incredible.

Iowa won the Orange Bowl in January of 2010. How is that a few years ago? And as for futility, Hayden at the Rose Bowl was futility defined. All 3 games were bad for the Hawks.
2 where they were simply outmatched and 1 where Ronnie Harmon choked on his own bone.

Anything outside of the Rose Bowl or BCS title game (which is a pipedream for most of the B10) is the real prize. A BCS game is maybe tantamount to winning a divisional series, while the other bowl games are about the same as game 163.

Back in 2003, the Cubs won that elusive divisional series but didn't win it all. In 2004, everyone was dead certain it was their year. JD Miller was on record calling for an undefeated season and scrambling to book motel rooms in Chicago in October. And then they gagged down the stretch and had multiple critical defensive lapses.

Back in 2009, the Hawks won that elusive BCS game, the consolation prize for losing at OSU and retribution after being embarrassed in their last visit to Miami. In 2010, everyone was claiming national championship. JD Miller was again on record calling for an undefeated and scrambling to book motel rooms for the national title game in January. The Hawks gagged down the stretch and had multiple critical defensive lapses.

The Hawks are the Cubs. The moment you let them build up your hope, they crush it. Well, actually, Corey Wootton crushes it.

Ok, stay with me here...January 2010 to December 2011 is 1 year and 11 months or almost 2 years ago. Few is loosely defined as 2 or more.

This purpose of this thread was to point out the futility of Northwestern Football when it comes to winning a bowl game and draw a modern day comparison. If you don't have a take on their lame bowl record, maybe you should post in another thread.

Hard to say anyone felt crushed from the 2010 Orange Bowl outcome. The point of the post was postseason futility and Northwesterns claim to the title of Lamest of the Lame in all of College Football. NW wears the crown or the tiara in this case...there can be no confusion about that. They share the same postseason futility record as the Cubs...worst in their sport...hence the comparison and rightly so. Iowa has won 14 bowl games over this same span...there can be no comparison there.

Face it, NW wears the tiara of futilty for the College Football postseason. I'm hoping they get a break this year, similar to the break Fitz got against Iowa in his playing years. Wait, we can always check if the bowl game with Iowa every year counts...checked...it doesn't.

Oh, sorry, my bad. You were just talking about post-season futility. I had erroneously equated the Cubs to the Hawks because they both have a bunch of fat, stupid fans from Iowa and the Collar Counties (including DuPage) who will buy vastly overpriced tickets to pay vastly inflated salaries no matter how crappy their team is.

Yes...postseason futility. The facts are the facts...no need to get personal about how fat Iowa and stupid Iowa fans are. This stereotype is a little misleading though as not all Iowa fans are fat and stupid. Northwestern, however, has lost EVERY bowl game they have played since 1949 and have a record on par with the Chicago Cubs. The lovable losers...I'll remember the Wildcats this way until they break through and get that first bowl win. You won't have to wait long though...as I think this is the year. Seriously I don't, but I'm sure you do.

So this post confirms, you agree with the premise: Northwestern Football = Chicago Cubs?

he's not even an iowa fan, doesn't matter, he would go to his teams board but they have such a small following they dont even have a fan board

if you disagree with okeefe he will always make it personal and say immature things...

I think he's just in denial...so don't be too hard on him. He loves his Cats with all his might. So much that he forgets how every quasi successful season ends...with the bowl debacle and meltdown. It's a part of his memory he dare not go...it's where the monsters and ghoblins of reality are.

One day Ok4P will be able to say, "Northwestern Wildcats, Meineke Car Bowl Champions", and this may be the year. Oooh, the suspense is killing me.
