Northwestern cheap shots/dirty hits

Just concerned with the last two seasons the Wildcats taking out Greene and Stanzi and playing "dirty" as some would call it (Stanzi was a clean tackle). Anyone worried that NW tries to aim for Robinson's helmet? We've seen what NW has done and with A-Rob coming off a concussion, will NW use that to their "advantage" and go for a helmet-to-helmet just to take him out? Wouldn't surprise me if this is what Fitz is coaching, albeit not in an obvious way.
 
It's football. People get hit. People get hurt. Stanzi's injury had more to do with our stupidity than a cheap shot by them (in my opinion).
 
I didn't think Greene's looked terribly malicious either. Like Iowuh stated...it's football, people get hit. I haven't seen the Greene replay recently, but going from memory, he was struggling for extra yards when a safety came in to finish him off. I seem to think that right before contact his head came up and that's where the NW player got him. While it's unfortunate he got knocked silly and fumbled, I certainly wouldn't call it a dirty hit.
 
If this thread had been posted on another team's board about our Hawkeyes we'd be discussing how ridiculous it is. Of course Fitz coaches them to hit hard and finish plays... he was a stud linebacker. Maybe the Greene hit was a little late but I didn't really have a big problem with it. With all the news about the NFL's new hitting policy and everything I really think people are taking things way to far. It seems like a lot of the decision makers must have no idea what it's like to play defense in football. In HS I was an OLB and I was a headhunter. I would play 100% until the whistle was blown and that's the way our coaches encouraged us to play. That's the "zone" any decent defensive player gets himself into. I'm sure Sash has made a few hits this year that were as late in the play as the Greene hit.

Also, when you consider Greene's ability to lower his shoulders and run through tackles you absolutely can't blame the NW player for wanting to clean up the play. I'm sure they practiced finishing plays off all week simply because of Greene's strengths while running the ball.
 
I wouldn't have any complaints if Clayborn had one of his famous "slightly late and slightly high with the forearm but not so much that it looks flagrant" hits on Persa. Danny boy is only 2 weeks removed from a mild concussion, himself.

(Normally I wouldn't advocate this because I really used to root for NW and loved their rags to riches run in the 90's. Since they've become Iowa's nemesis over the last decade in both football and basketball, I want to see the Hawks physically beat them back to the 80's!)
 
I don't want the Hawks to play dirty but I would like to see a couple of things. The offensive line blocking until the whistle & being nasty. James Ferentz is really good @ this. The defense hitting everything that moves, particulary Persa. :D
 
Anyone that has looked at the Greene hit can see that it was helmet to helmet,which is why he was instantly knocked unconscious. I saw Phillips do this to stood up rbs thruout his career. It was taught that way by Fitz. It should have been a flag,and the ball should have gone back to Iowa...period.

As for the hit on Stanzi, he was facemasked by the dtackle who came by and swiped him as Wooten was laying on his legs as he twisted his body in an unnatural angle.
Should have been a flag, no td, Iowa ball,period.

Fitz is a dirty dbag,period.
 
I think Fitz is a thug who coaches his team to play that way. They get away with it because they're sweet little Northwestern.

That Stanzi injury play was about as dirty as it gets.
 
If Iowa can come out this weekend with just 1/2 the intensity they had for Michigan State they should put the Kittens away by half time.
With that said I picked Iowa 21-18 on another thread.
 
I think Clayborn should rip off Persa's head and then take it over to the sidelines jab a pole into and give it to Stanzi to throw across the field into Fitz's heart so the last thing he sees is the decapitated head of his QB staring in his face.

How's that for over the top bulletin board material?

Really is just a game. The hit on Shonn was the standard at the time. Glad that standard is going away. The facemask was a missed call by the ref who was looking at the ball. Both unfortunate.
 
Sorry,beg to differ. Helmet to helmet was a penalty in 2008. Refs missed the call, but NW specialized in that hit. Watched them do it in other games. Just like they specialize in grabbing receivers running in the secondary...PSU fans noted it last week. Fitz has an approach...play dirty all the time,and make the refs call it.
 
glad tomorrow is game day and there's something else worth talking about. don't really see cheap shot intent in either of those to be honest. it's football- it happens. should there have been a penalty? sure. we done here? ok.
