Nobody else cares

Where I live I get radio broadcasts from SEC, ACC, and Big 12. Just wanted to let you know, I haven't heard this mentioned on any of those stations.

Also, called my brother in P10 Country. He follows things more closely than I and he hadn't heard of it.

Which made me ask, "Are we making too much out of this?"

Yes, because the story isn't about drugs, it's about the living situation. And that story isn't interesting nationally, it is only interesting to Hawkeye fans because it can help explain away some things.

It is only a story in Big 10 country. We are who we are. I wouldn't have expected this to be a national story because we are Iowa, sometimes Iowa fans think we are a "national program", we aren't. If this was the all-time leading receiver at a program considered to be top 10-15 it would have been a national story (or if we were in the BCS this year).

I didn't listen to it but I saw it posted on one of the message boards that Scott Van Pelt talked about it for 4-5 minutes on his radio show yesterday.

Yeah, and the Urban Meyer retirement issue pretty much took everything else off the newsboard with respect to college football yesterday.

I think even if we were in the top 10 no one would care, because no one cares about DJK. Yeah he's our all time leading receiever, but he has never been a real game changer. He was not going to be a high draft pick, and the team doesn't really depend on him, and his absence doesn't make it impossible to win.

Put it this way, if Oklahoma's second leading receiever this year got arrested, would you expect Sportcenter to spend 5 minutes on it?

Current headlines on ESPN.com college football page include DJK, a Nebraska player suspended for a DUI, and 2 Washington players facing felony charges.

I'm not sure this would have been national news regardless, but obviously the Urban Meyer story has helped take the spotlight away from all of these incidents.

Awesome, we finally agree on something. I knew the day would come. But yes, if this had been Cam Newton or a star on a BCS bowl team it would be on ESPN 24/7.

DJK is 1/1000th of the importance of Cam Newton. I doubt if the Hakws were in the BCS, this would be news either. DJK is just not a player who is going to impact the game to the point where it is worth attention. He's not a star, even by Iowa standards.

If we were in the BCS this would be huge news. As it is we are 7-5 and the rest of the country could give a s#!t.

I think it is a good thing that nobody cares. This isn't exactly great news to have coming out of the Iowa football program. If it can go under the radar nationally I will take that.

It definitely gets blown up around here. Something I didn't know about until I read it, but this came out as a story in the middle of September. Not sure if this has been talked about yet, but there were 30 ARRESTS at Florida under Urban Meyer. (my guess is probably a few more now) In September, this averaged one arrest for every two wins.

We have had our fair share as Iowa fans, but to have people calling out Ferentz and wondering how this was allowed to happen is a bit over the top.

Success creates more pressure to succeed. One down year has magnified everything. At least we've had success, and will continue to under Ferentz.
