Big Ten ready body. Impressive film. Does he see the field this year? Everyone's focused on Nixon, but I think Shannon is the true nose guard type Iowa's been missing.

When you look at the depth chart, they may not have much choice. IMO, it's the weakest unit on the roster in terms of available quality. One or two injuries, and you easily could see Shannon seeing the field and/or players getting moved inside.

In an ideal scenario, he gets a year to improve strength and leverage, but we may not get that luxury.

I would have to believe he only sees the field if there are injuries. It would be great to have a redshirt on a freshman DT. If he plays, it's because he's that good and he would be jumping players like Reiff, and others. That isn't necessarily a bad thing...but ideally he won't play unless he's truly ready. Hard to believe a high school kid can come in and do the job necessary at DT in Iowa's defense. Hopefully Nelson and Lattimore are healthy as the rotation with those two will be solid. I think AJ will take some reps there on passing downs as well as Golston & Hesse. We just need to be able to stop the run on 1st and 2nd down.

It depends. If he were to play I'd hope to get 5 to 10 snaps a game out of him. Not 5 to 10 snaps every 3 or 4 games. There's a point where it's just not worth it when redshirting would benefit him more. With Nixon not playing this year that certainly opens up the possibility for it. That said if Matt Nelson is healthy and he Reiff, Lattimore etc are all playing well Shannon may not be needed to play even that much. So to me it's a wait and see thing. I wouldn't throw him out there in week one in a blowout for garbage snaps unless the plan is to play him more all year long.

Mark my words. Noah Shannon is the most underrated player in the '18 class. Gonna be a straight up kang. Kang!
I have three that stand out as possible "best of the class". It's way to early to tell, but Noah, Jayden and a cb we got (can't remember his name). I watched some tape on the cb during his recruiting and was like wow this kid plays aggressive, with attitude.
I think all three do. A smooth transition to college and the ability to take care of business will play a factor, but those three seem to have a head start on some of the others. Which we all know doesn't mean much a few years in, so it will be interesting to see who claims the best of the class.
Oh and I think we might of gotten a pretty good qb to work with also.
