No Love From ESPN Insider

From ESPN insider:

"Worst 8-0 team ever"

So says Drew Sharp of the Detroit Free Press, lamenting that the Big Ten's highest-ranked team is still unbeaten because it has "incorporated the perfect strategy -- waiting out the opposition's inevitable mistakes." Sharp also goes on to say that an unbeaten Cincinnati team would deserve a BCS championship game invite more than a 12-0 Iowa club.
OK, we could chalk up Sharp's rants to sour grapes -- the Hawkeyes beat both Michigan and, in last week's stunner, Michigan State this season. But others, including ESPN.com's Bruce Feldman, have pointed out that Iowa has the smallest margin of victory among the teams in the top 10 of the BCS standings, and you have to admit that the thought of facing the Hawkeyes doesn't exactly make anyone shiver.
We look at it this way: If Iowa manages to make it through the next four weeks without losing (the Nov. 14 game at Ohio State appears to be the only possible setback), chances are the Hawkeyes will get waxed in whatever BCS bowl they end up in anyway. So why get all bent out of shape now?

Lawhawk..... the problem is... not one even gives the big ten conference any love.. reason for that is this... Ohio State has been over hyped for YEARS, playing in championship games they had no business playing in. Penn State has been over hyped for years and they never live up to any of the expectations put on them...

so when a team like iowa gets a stretch of good luck and amazing football all people think about are OSU and Penn St. and how they are "the only good teams" in the big ten.

its total crap no matter how you look at it... but thats the world we live in

Forget ESPN, they were the same ones who said last year the Arizona Cardinals were the worst team to make the playoffs, and then they were all singing praises when the got to the Super Bowl.

I think it's laughable the we get the "worst ever 8-0" comment. You hear nothing about Boise St., TCU, Cinncy and all the other non BCS schools undefeated every year. I think most media sources saying this are people who didn't expect Iowa to be here and don't want a shake up in the system. Let's be honest, most "fans" outside the state of Iowa would love to see the 2 best teams play for the NC. We're not looked at as the best, so they don't want us there.

If other teams lose, and we win out and make the NC game, then everything changes. At that point we are the comeback kids, the guys that never get down now matter the odds, etc. They just flip the story because they need to for ratings.

The media has their "darlings" that they like to pimp year in and year out and look what happened last night - everyone, but the national media, knew USC was overrated and they got waxed by a team that got beat by Boise St. No team should be ranked in the top 20, let alone the top 20, if you get beat by Washington.
