No Love for Last yrs. D-Line

People are lazy and don't do their homework. I'm sure that the dude doesn't understand the game well enough to appreciate the impact that Iowa's injuries at LB had. That's not to say that the Iowa DL didn't underachieve a bit ... however, they still played pretty darn well through much of the season.

The people that keep saying that this past team didn't have what it takes, or they had no guts, or that they underachieved, or what have you, simply didn't open their eyes.
Losing your ENTIRE 2-deep at the LB position will kill just about any team. Having a 215lb undersized, inexperienced 18 year old lead your defense doesn't cut it in the B1G. Interesting tho, that undersized 18 year old will be a year wiser, experienced, battle hardened, 232lbs wrecking ball in the fall. Get him a supporting cast at LB and Mike Daniels, Broddick Binns and the rest of our d-line will be fun to see.

Pretty easy to point the fingers at our "hyped" d-line from last year. That being said, two facts that contradict the criticism.

1) #7 in rushing defense in the country (with the LB crew decimated this is very, very impressive)
2) We played a preponderance of short route spread teams. You can't sack the QB if he throws it in 3 seconds.

I'd also put their fatigue in the fourth quarter on our offense because they didn't help them out with time consuming drives in the second half of any of our losses.

I'd put it on a combo of factors .... inconsistent special teams play, anemic O after the MSU game, injuries at LB, and a lack of drive after our BCS bowl hopes were shattered. Of course, part of the issue with the O deals with ARob's injury, DJK dropping off the radar (people know what I'm talking about), and our OG injuries. Of course, the INT that Stanzi threw against Northwestern was a big momentum-shifter at the end of the season too.
