Or perhaps Iowa has agreed to be more flexible with Derby and there is some kind of middle ground that will avoid Darby having to attend a prep school.

Yeah, like guaranteeing he truly qualified, won't get flagged and will last through the academic year. If all those happen...

Still waiting to speak with the coach to get the skinny on the situation. I will say that the dynamic here could have changed in that the kid has offers from Rutgers and Temple but has since added BC and ASU. He has other options and I'd be surprised of the Hawkeyes just completely reversed field unless something new came to light academically.

The coach has gone silent on me after confirming Iowa had re-engaged his player. That hasn't been his MO in the past.

I'm beginning to wonder how much Iowa is willing to bend here. The coaches might just be continuing to talk him into prep school. I'll keep working on it.

I have to say, that's an awfully bold claim to make about somebody who's never played at the D1 college level.

I don't blame the kid... It's not a Rutgers type school and if they are willing to give him a shot without going the prep route, I can't fault him for wanting to give it a go.

I'm not saying what Iowa was recommending wasn't in his best interest but if I'm him, I personally feel some doubt in the belief of the Iowa coaching staff that I can do what it takes to get it done in the classroom.

I guess only time will tell if the kid can prove himself in the classroom or if the prep route would have been a better route.
