NIT FIELD/SEED PREDICTIONS

There are going to be 22 at large bids to the NIT that are up for grabs after 10 top seeds fell in their conference tournaments over the course of the last two weeks. The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders would be automatic qualifiers if they dropped into the NIT as well, but they would clearly fit the bill as an NIT team regardless of their conference affiliation.
NIT No. 1 Seeds: Kentucky Wildcats, Virginia Cavaliers, Iowa Hawkeyes, Tennessee Volunteers
NIT No. 2 Seeds: Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles, Maryland Terrapins, Alabama Crimson Tide, Stanford Cardinal
NIT No. 3 Seeds: Baylor Bears, Providence Friars, Xavier Musketeers, Florida State Seminoles
NIT No. 4 Seeds: Washington Huskies, Arizona State Sun Devils, Arkansas Razorbacks, Massachusetts Minutemen
NIT No. 5 Seeds: Indiana State Sycamores, Charlotte 49ers, BYU Cougars, Air Force Falcons
NIT No. 6 Seeds: Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, St. John’s Red Storm, St. Joseph’s Hawks, Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks
NIT No. 7 Seeds: Robert Morris Colonials, Stony Brook Seawolves, Niagara Purple Eagles, Long Beach State 49ers
NIT No. 8 Seeds: Mercer Bears, Northeastern Huskies, Norfolk State Spartans, Charleston Southern Buccaneers

Big 10
NIT Locks: Iowa Hawkeyes
NIT Bubble: None

We feel really bad for Head Coach Fran McCafferty and the gang. The Hawkeyes were one of the best 37 at large teams in the nation as we saw it this year, but they scheduled so poorly in the non-conference season that there was no way to justify putting them in the dance. They’ll be here in the NIT and get at least two, if not three home games as long as they keep winning as their reward for a solid season, though. Not a terrible consolation prize for a team that is still a step or two shy of competing with the big boys in the Big Ten.

If you are a #1 seed in the NIT do you get all the games on your home court until the NIT final 4?

NVM reading comprehension fail...

This puts us in Carver until MSG. Also, both McCabe and White said that if we end up in the NIT then we will be playing to win it...for those concerned about Iowa being up for the NIT. McCabe said the good news is they know their season didn't end Friday...get to play more basketball.

Glad White and McCabe said they are going to try to win the NIT. Jeeze people...what do you expect them to say? "We wanted the NCAA's so we won't be motivated at all for the NIT"?

It's a legitimate concern about being ready to play. Fran has done a great job of not allowing us to have let down efforts: both after big wins and unfortunate losses.

I won't be paying any attention to the NIT. I don't personally recognize it as a tournament worth watching. Iowa should reject their invitation.

Edit: SARCASM. Good grief people. I was just poking fun at the people who are so upset about not making the NCAA tournament.

Not sure if you would have wanted to ask players that question on the 98 team. They were not motivated at all to play in the NIT and got beat soundly at CHA against an average Georgia team.

Iowa should reject the invitation because you personally won't watch? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. You are the voice of Stanzi not the Iowa basketball community in general. I will watch Iowa and pay attention. I actually track any Big Ten team in the NIT each year...not saying I watch every game but I monitor their progress. This is like saying I only recognize the 5 major bowls and won't watch any other bowl game Iowa plays...makes zero sense.

2013 NIT Bracketology - NIT Tournament Update (Updated 3/16 6:15 ET)

With college basketball becoming much more even every year, the NIT field seems to improve. A lot of good teams in this field, will be worth watching.

Barta: Eric May do you want to play another game?
May: Yes.
Barta: Too bad. Hawkeye Nation poster Stanzi doesn't recognize the NIT. So we will reject, sorry.

I'll bite. Did you pay attention to last year's 2 games? If not and if not this year if they make it then you're not a true Iowa fan just some troll trying to get people like me to bite on your nonsense. You can turn in your Hawk Fan Card anytime you want. We (real fans) don't need your negative and non-supportive type around these parts. If you don't like it, just be quiet and move on. This is for people who actually like their teams and want to talk about them whether win or lose.

So should we anticipate any posts from you once Iowa starts playing in it? Obviously it's not the big dance. It's not a goal of any team to play in the NIT. Once the dust settles and that is your fate then it'd be pretty dumb to not want this young team (any team but especially one where they'll all be back pretty much) to not get more game time with each other to continue to grow. The confidence this group could have going into next year if they put a good run together in the NIT would be huge. That's not even going into the monetary value of playing a few more home games for the school. I hope it sells out and Carver is rocking.

I did the same to your post.

I edited my post so that people like you who couldn't pick up the sarcasm will realize my post wasn't serious. Come on now. Like we should reject a bid to the tournament most fans thought we'd make before the season started.
