Nice Article On Josey Jewell After Brandon Marshall Got Cut

When they say it's not about the $. It's about the $. The difference in what they'd have had to pay Marshall and him is huge. That's the result of how they structured the payment of rookie contracts now. The teams couldn't police themselves when it came to overpaying guys like Sam Bradford. I think he may have been the last rookie to get a ridiculously large rookie deal. So now the gap between what rookies and vets make is so huge it's crazy. Teams are always trying to find that right balancing act of how to manage their cap... Jewell is the beneficiary of just that atm with his job. He's gotta stay healthy and play well 2 more yrs before they'd consider 'rewarding' him with a new significant deal.

True, but who cares if it's the Broncos?

If they would cut him over money there would be twenty teams lined up if he has two more years like this last one.

Oh the only reason the Broncos is significant is they could extend him prior to contract expiring. Like the Giants did with Beckam Jr. It'd be another year after that till he could be a FA and have other teams get in the mix for him. Not counting if he were to get cut earlier as you mentioned. It's tough for these players to stay healthy and stretch their careers past what the average player is even in the league to get that 2nd contract where they can really make big $. If your picked in the bottom 10 or so of the 1st round and lower it's a really big drop in overall compensation compared to the top 10-15 picks.

And now, in a move that can't hurt the future of Ben Niemann, the Chiefs have released four time Pro Bowl linebacker Justin Houston.

Seize the opportunity Ben. Make some (Ben)jamins for yourself.
I don't think that's the same position Ben plays for them but one less LB in the meeting room doesn't hurt his position on the team any as you mentioned. Houston will get snatched up by some pass rushing needy team.

I'm almost positive Niemann's reps will increase this year. He's shown out in both the preseason as well as his very limited action, the KC coaches sing his praise in practice, and on top of all that, he's an absolute steal for being an UDFA. I wouldn't be surprised if his snaps start to steadily increase to the point of rotational guy until KC or another team tries to take a chance on him.

No doubt. Plus he's a special teams guy. With the NFLs 53 man rosters they can't get enough guys wiling to run down covering & blocking on kicks
