Nice Article On Jewell From A Non-Iowa Perspective

Some of the Broncos talking heads think the Outlaw might step in right away this season.

I'm ashamed to admit I never saw the highlight where he read the reverse before the pitch happened. It took Bower until the ball was in Rison's hands to cut, and he ended up getting blocked and corralled away from the play, even though it was on his side. That's the difference between a good linebacker and a great one. Perfect example.
Kinda makes me wonder what the dropoff will be like this year. Good thing Phil's still in charge, not sure if it'll be enough though.

Replacing 132 tackles, 13.5 for loss and 4.5 sacks won't be easy. I'm hoping Brother Nick is a beast; from what Phil says he's more athletic than Ben, who was no slouch himself.

I agree. Just imagine what Saturdays are going to be like with our offense coupled with a defense that can’t stop anyone’s offense. Expect a lot halfback passes due to our linebackers being out of position.

If there was ever a case where “Next Man In” needs to be affective this is the year.

I have confidence in Parker. Ferentz & Ferentz not even a little bit.

For sure. I was thinking more along the lines of missing Jewell's instincts/field vision. Doesn't matter how athletic you are if you're running the wrong direction.

Jewell in the right fit will be a solid MLB. He might not be a HOFer but if he stays healthy he'll play 10 plus years and be a guy lots of teams will wish they'd have taken a round or 2 sooner. Kinda like what Hitchens and Kirksey are doing for themselves. Not the same positions exactly but they are plenty valuable and carving out really nice careers for themselves. No reason Jewell can't do at least that.

No doubt. Or getting caught just watching the play and being blocked... When Quinton Alston was playing his SR yr he so often got himself caught up in the wash and blocked he just had little impact on the field. Jewell as 'slow' as he is out there rarely ever could have that said about him. I bet Alston could win the underwear Olympics against Jewel but he'd never see the field if they were competing for the same position...

You do have to give Parker a lot of credit especially when considering how long Kirk puts the defense on the field. Viagra couldn’t help our unimaginative limp dick offense.
I’m just happy that while limp dicks run in the Ferentz family you don’t have the same problem.
