NFL Scouts Visit Iowa City

I like the write up and your thoughts on DJK getting a second chance. I hate reading these boards and seeing the animosity posted towards DJK (almost as though posters felt individually wronged in some way). He gave us 4 great years of football. He made a mistake, lets hope he takes this opportunity to learn from it and move on to a successful NFL career.

Sorry to be a grammar nazi, Jon, but this has been bothering since I saw it on the front page. The correct spelling is "descends."

Iowa certainly has its fair share of intriguing draft prospects, and that was evident at the school’s pro day on Monday, with representatives from 20 teams on hand to watch 14 players work out.

No Hawkeye caught the attention of pro scouts more than DE Adrian Clayborn, who looked really good in his workout in front of D-line coaches from Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Arizona, and Cincinnati. Clayborn (6-3 1/8, 278 pounds) did a vertical jump of 35 ½ inches and a broad jump of 9-6. He posted a time of 7.08 seconds in the short shuttle and did 17 bench-press repetitions at 225 pounds.

The number of lifts could be a slight concern, because Clayborn is not as strong as most DEs, but he is very explosive. He’s got a great first move, which is why he will be a top-20 pick.

Iowa QB Ricky Stanzi also did himself some good Monday with a workout that was superior to his performance at the NFL Scouting Combine. Stanzi (6-4 1/8, 224) ran 4.93 twice in the 40, had a 34-inch vertical, a 9-7 broad jump, and ran 4.56 and 7.23 in the short shuttle and 3-cone drill, respectively, to go with 16 bench-press reps. He definitely helped his stock, which is good since he had an audience of QB coaches that included Carolina and Baltimore.
Other notable players to work out:
DL Christian Ballard (6-4 ½, 286) — He ran 4.70 twice in the 40, had a 34-inch vertical and 9-7 broad jump, posted times of 4.56 in the short shuttle and 7.23 in the 3-cone drill, and did 16 strength lifts.
DL Karl Klug (6-3 1/8, 275) — He ran 4.81 and 4.83 40s, had a 29 ½-inch vertical, a 9-5 broad jump, and ran 4.60 and 7.01 in the short shuttle and 3-cone drill, respectively, to go with 21 strength lifts.
OL Julian Vandervelde (6-2 ½, 302) — He ran 5.09 and 5.13 40s, had a 30-inch vertical and a 9-foot broad jump, ran a 4.44 short shuttle and 7.14 3-cone drill, and did 25 strength lifts.
DB Tyler Sash (6-0, 210) — He ran 4.61 and 4.66 40s, had a 33-inch vertical and 9-4 broad jump, and 14 bench presses. He didn’t do the shuttles.

I think DJK is eventually gonna be valuable 2nd option for an NFL team, looking forward to see where he lands.

I agree, I think he's a steal for whoever gets him if he can stay out of trouble. Think he'd be a great fit in New England. I'd love for the Vikings to draft him.

Bench Reps.

Sash - 14
Stanzi - 16
Ballard - 16
DJK - 21
Klug - 21

Interesting.

Not really, alot of these guys that do a ton of reps have much smaller wing spans. Ballard's arm are very long. Sash really surprised me, thought he would be more than that. Clayborn did 17 reps BTW.

Depends where he goes. I think he could play either eventually.

If he goes to Minnesota or NE he isn't going to play the slot unless he's the 4th wr (2nd slot guy) Which I could see him doing.

That's why I was asking, MN and NE have 2 of the best slot guys in the NFL. I could see him being a 4th WR on 3rd down packages.

We all need 2nd chances. Some of us need 5th and 6th and 8th chances.
And sometimes our 3rd or 4th chances have to happen at some place other than the place that gave us our first 2 chances.

DJK has options; they just are no longer at Iowa.

That is all.
