I get the idea of the new rules is to have higher scoring games, more offense...but the way the refs are calling it, has had the opposite effect,
more foul-calling, more (boring) time at the free-throw line...

how many times have our big men, been just standing there, arms up, feet set....& the offensive guy bounces into them and it's a foul.... TERRIBLE!
Woodbury & Olesini don't even protest calls anymore, or even have a look of dis-belief, they just shake their heads and walk to the bench....

I used to love the physical play, that the BIG10 was known for......what we have now isn't basketball....it sucks......

Amen. The rules need to focus on handchecking and holding (watching Marble operate on offense at the Kohl Center is a good example of what is illegal under the new rules). However, in many Iowa games, I've seen our bigs just standing there, the offensive player initiate contact and bam, foul on the defense. It is unbelievable. To my knowledge, that is not part of the new rules package, but it is being called a lot. The NCAA is trying to emphasize offense like the NBA does, but the fact of the matter is there are very few college kids who can hit the sorts of shots that NBA dudes make their cash on (Jabari Parker excluded).

I think the game became corrupted just because refs are asking for handouts from hometeam. the game become unbearable to watch. IMO. You can hate me all you want!

ugfest,Smash your mouth" style basketball . Man , That was exciting!

The rules need some tweeking.

Good: outlawing hand checking and bumping cutters off their routes.

Bad: allowing offensive players to lower shoulder into the defender then whistle the defender.

The MSU-OSU game tonight is back to Basketbrawl, as it was in the Kohl Center...as predicted.

Iowa is going to get assaulted in Columbus on Sunday. not looking forward to watching that at all.

This.

I don't know what a charge is anymore; it's called more inconsistently this season with the defender just standing stationary compared to last season defenders trying to slip underneath or shift upper body sideways.

A charge is called only accidentally this season and then only if the dribbler is stupid.
Defenders have jumped/moved backwards when the shooter makes contact and it's still called on the defender.

College officiating is as bad as NBA officiating.

If you beat a man and he gets hit, it's a foul. If the defender keeps position and the offensive player runs into him it's either a foul on the offensive player or not a foul at all. It's not as hard as the league wants it to be but for some reason they seem to think watching scores in the 60's where guys repeatedly get mugged under the hoop is fun.

I'm just sick of watching help defenders hit offensive players with the body and get away with it on help defense. It's a product of one of two things I think, for some reason the conference wants to maintain their image of being physical but what really is happening a game that looks sloppy and boring or they have refs who just focus only on what the arms and hands are doing and can't spot and obvious foul with the body.

While I'm complaining about basketball things that annoy me, watching teams constantly chuck threes is getting old.
