With all of this talk and mud-slinging from outsiders I continually have heard the old buzz word of ‘perception is reality’ based on the credible ‘social-media’ world where truth is optional when it comes to information. It’s all about slinging stuff at will or through anonymous sources and seeing how much reaction you can generate. Buzz = cash.
I’m thinking that it might be a more profitable and a less costly venture to start a new Big Ten Perception Football League. This league would be comprised of teams that would not truly exist but a number of guys sitting around posting messages on facebook, blogs and twitter. The perception generated behind our season, trials and tribulations could build and turn into something spectacular.
The perceived coaching staff could recruit potential players but have a nice pitch; come play for our perception program. You will not have to work out a minute nor play a game involving contact but we will make you a star. Numerous press conferences could be held where nothing is really learned but an ample supply of coach speak (day-to-day, gave it 110%, etc.) and buzz words could be relayed to the public so the players heal more quickly. Everyone in the world would be satisfied including the media who would have ample stories to write and discuss.
I really think this might work and save a lot of people money, stress and headache. It would be wonderful also that we could always win our games, have no off-field problems and graduate every player. Nothing bad could actually happen and in our perceived world we could hold press conferences to talk about it regardless if we have all the answers or it’s the public’s business in the first place. For games we could run all kinds of elaborate schemes on both offense and defense and our coaches will always make the exact right adjustment at the right time and our players will execute everything perfectly.
Wow… I’ve really missed the boat on this perception deal.
