New Mexico bowl finish

Anybody catch the finish of the New Mexico bowl? Too lazy to google who their head coach is, but I think he went to the Kirk Ferentz school of coaching. Couldn't cover an onside kick that everybody knew was coming, then let Arizona score in 3 plays to win the game.

Just curious, but when is it the coaches responsibility to recover an onside kick? I thought that was something the players did. If "everyone" knew it was coming then I see that falling on the players and not the coaching staff. Not giving them a free pass, but I don't see how that is on the coaching staff.
