New DL Recruit?

Has an Iowa offer as well and Kirk had an in home visit with him last night according to Marc Morehouse.

Wouldn't you love to be a fly on the wall during an in home visit from Kirk? I'd love to know how that goes. How he is selling the program now. Now going after Dlineman he can point to Davis, LTP and the several before them and say look I'll put you in the NFL. But as far as the program as a whole I'd be curious to know how he is presenting things to the kids now.

In his mind (KF) nothing is wrong. He has no plan of action to turn things around. Remember he's the same guy that he was in 1999 & 2000. SMH

I was thinking the same thing. Only times I hear Kirk talk is when he's doing it publicly. Another big part of the in home visit is how the coach presents their school to the parents which can go a long way. Kirk does have a good rep in graduating players which I'm sure the parents are thinking about more than the kid. Kirk seems to be a likable guy but I do wonder what his selling points are and how does he present them. Having Davis and LTP likely getting drafted this years sure can't hurt.

Hopefully this is because the Hawks are getting Daniels commitment tomorrow, and they told Wilson he wouldn't be needed.......a guy can hope anyway.

Compared to Purdue, it would be the easiest sell. And that is without mentioning all the guys he has sent to the NFL... It jus depends on whether the kid is set in Purdue for other reasons than football.

Iowa steals a fallback from Cincinnati, not listed in Rivals Top 10 in the state, behind a kid that's going to walk-on at ISU. Looks like he was about our 7th or 8th choice to fill this spot.

Garret Jansen from Pella. Played on a state championship team. Watched their semi final and championship games, and he was clearly the best player on the field IMHO. Pella just worked Xavier and Heelan. I think he will be quality.

That said he is admittedly a fallback...from Iowa...and white. So, let the incessant ******** begin.

Pella had a really, really good team by Iowa high school standards. Talent and depth all over the field (again, by Iowa 3A standards). It's quite a stretch to say with certainty that Jansen was the best player on the field. Their QB is a stud and is being looked at by Iowa as a LB/S in the next class.

Yeah, that team passed the eye test for me. They handled Xavier by more than Dowling did early in the season. Can't argue with the Pella QB either though. I was very impressed with Jansen's ability to disrupt by shooting gaps and his ability to tackle in space. We'll see I guess.

Kind of interesting that, as I have read through the threads this a.m., watching it snow like crazy with no let up until midnight tonight, I have noticed that Iowa's basketball coaches are taking a lot of hits for not recruiting kids from Iowa who are now playing on a highly ranked team from Cedar Falls. But, when Iowa football has recruited an under the radar kid from Pella, or where ever, we have appointed him DOA. Fact is, we will miss on some, we will develop some into very good football players. For all the rating systems, star displays, scientific research on players, at some level its still a crap shoot. Once a kid is a Hawkeye, I will be all in for him, or her.

You probably would have said the same thing about John Roehlk. He started for the Hawks in the Hayden Fry era. But I believe he was a preferred walk on when he started at Iowa. He played small school football for a team that was not a power: Durant. I doubt he would have been as high at the 7th or 8th choice coming out of high school. He competed against my brothers in high school and was a great athlete. All state in football and I believe a state qualifier in wrestling, qualified for state in the shot put and discus in track and was all conference in baseball. Actually made it into the NFL for a brief stint.

So you guarantee that this guy's going to make the NFL? You're an idiot.

There's always the guys that defend this lousy recruiting. So what, maybe 1 orr 2 of these guys pan out, we are never going to compete with a class full of these types of players, period. Furthermore, where are the skill players we need so badly? We should never be at this point where we are scrambling to fill a class with fallbacks from Iowa.
