New commit- Djimon Colbert

great pickup - kid had offers from iowa, plus traditional big 8 schools - like the trend of landing kids early that are identified early on in the recruiting process!

Trying to track him down. We've missed connecting a couple of times. Hopefully today.

Excellent player and fits well into this program. Friends with Aaron Mends.

There are a lot of down teams in the Great Plains. Some of them are just now having bad years, others have been down for a number of years, and others are more or less permanently down. You would think teams that are on the up like Iowa and Arkansas could pick up a few more recruits in the area.

Missouri - Seems to have fallen into the basement of the SEC east after a few good years built on two decades of improvement.
Kansas State - Not terrible but has struggled to keep themselves at the level established during the 1990's.
Texas Tech - Other Texas teams closer to the urban centers have passed them up.
Colorado - Who would think they competed among the elite teams for a short time 25 years ago. Basement of the Pack 12 South.
Colorado State - Used to be a much better team. Has settled into mediocrity.
Iowa State - The weak Big Twelve north was their chance to stick their heads out of the basement. No more.
Kansas - These guy actually had a winning season back there somewhere.
Tulsa - Three down years in a row.
Wyoming - Had some success in the distant past but there is some question whether this team belongs in the FBS anymore.

The big boys like Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Tennessee have always taken the cream of the crop, but with so many teams down in the region I have to wonder if more players are available just below that level.

This is a great pick up for us, good kid and a good athlete. I bet he helps recruit a few other members kids out of Missouri/Kansas City this year.

A recent podcast from another site noted that Tom Lemming (in attendance at Iowa's Junior Day) stated that the talent pool in the 2017 class is down in surrounding states which should play in Iowa's favor since this year the talent level is up in Iowa..........noting in-state linemen in particular.

Our 2017 commitments have some serious talent. The future is bright if they develop.

I've never followed recruiting closely but it sure seems like the Hawks are kicking things up a notch.

Success in '16 will be critical to keep momentum. '17 could be a very good class.

Keep it rolling...

We are definitely seeing the 2015 season pay dividends with 2017 recruiting. If we can have another really good season in 2016 then we can really get rolling. It would likely keep us solid with the 2017 recruits and open pathways to really good 2018 recruits or late deciding 2017 recruits.
