No thanks to Chuck Long. He made a comment the past few days that Iowa needs to keep running the ball to set up th roasting game.

He’s evedenitly not been watching Iowa lately.

he says that because that is iowa does. he damn sure didn't do that as qb coach for stoops when they won the NT. remember, he does have a NT.

Chuck Long would be great as an OC again... So long as there aren't any reigns being put on him by KF. I was pissed they didn't try hiring him back when they hired GD. What a difference the last few years could have been. I'd rather see what he could do with a kid like Stanley then see BF experiment with him.

also no to chuck as OC. There's a reason he's in the booth and not on the sidelines and it ain't by choice. All the people saying chuck would make a good OC is because they're remembering what he did as a player, not how bad he was as an OC at OU.

Long is not up to it. He was a good college quarterback but it stops there.

Bielema would be cool if they put him on a treadmill and he knew to stay in his lane responsibility-wise. It’d be hard for that guy to go from running a ship to being part of the crew.

I was always in the camp that Long was a terrible coach. But he had an offense that averaged 51 points per game at OU as an OC, had a heisman trophy winner, was named a finalist for top assistant in college, and coached quarterbacks at OU when they won a national title. Maybe he’s not as bad as I remembered. He was a terrible head coach though.

I’ll say this. At this point, no stone should be left unturned.

The biggest thing I am curious about is what candidates are even interested in these jobs (if they were open). For all that Iowa has going for it it also has several disadvantages. What kind of coaches would apply and of those that would apply would we actually want coaching. The big names a few years ago were Bielema and Diaco. Both have had a terrible run and more than likely will be unemployed in a few weeks.

All I know that if and when Kirk steps down it will be a HUGE disappointment if Brian is just given the job. The name that doesn't come up very often is Phil Parker as head coach. Not sure if he is interested but as of late he has produced some pretty good players and has been at Iowa a long time. What about Mark Farley for those of you that live in Iowa. I still feel that ties to Iowa are important but maybe it is time for a wholesale change. At this point with the talent we currently have and the facilities, how bad would it be to start over?

* Move R. Morgan to OL coach (assuming this isn't the year for retirement). Things get done when he's responsible.

* K. Bell to DL coach and continue same recruiting responsibilities. He's a DL guy and assists in that capacity currently. If that's too much to give Bell then give him some assistance of some sort in recruiting.

* Let L. Woods go.....have seen little with his recruiting results in any number of years and we need help with this overall. How about his results coaching punting and punt returns? This creates an opportunity to try to enhance our recruiting efforts. Maybe a promo for B. Binns? Pretty smart guy with people skills or go outside for the hire with some recruiting connections outside the M/W.

* Move Polasek to Wood's previous responsibilities. Something has to change with the OL and the running game and B. Ferentz is not going anywhere next year besides OC, like it or not. May not be Polasek's fault this year but something has to change on the offensive side starting which seems OL as the crucial unit.

P.S. Bring back Bielema and give him the entire South to recruit :)

How bout Levar Woods’ TE coaching?? That hasn’t exactly planned out bad. I don’t think I’d be so quick to get rid of that guy over other folks on the staff.

The special teams thing is important, but no way do you throw the baby out with the bath water in the case of Woods.

And Polasek coaching tight ends? Jesus Christ.

Bobby Stoops will not coach again. End of story. No to Bielema, he's on the Butkus voters list that left Jewell off as a finalist. Definite character flaw.

OK, that's fair but my thoughts are Woods has done very little with his recruiting responsibilities in nearly10 years (?). Polasek coached TE's and Special Teams at both NUI and NDST. What other folks on the staff would you select to turn loose over Woods? Woods is probably a stretch pick on my part but I just think we need to refresh this staff to some degree and maybe rotate some chairs primarily to get to solving the running game dilemma where everything must start with Ferentzball. Second to that is finding better talent with our recruiting. I'm in no way placing Woods as the fall guy for this year's debacles. I just think he's more replaceable than others.

Hearing others say we should fire this Ferentz and that Ferentz just isn't going to happen so how else should the puzzle be put together in the meantime going into 2018? I open to other's thoughts.
