Need to stick with an 8 man rotation down the stretch

we won't but we should.

With Jok's emergence as a shooter he needs minutes to stay in the flow. Oglesby has had his chance and it's time to sit. He doesn't even shoot the ball anymore making him totally useless. No way he should be playing 15-18 minutes a game.

Uhl has gone MIA since the Minnesota game and I don't think much of Clemmons but you gotta have some subs.

No reason why we can't stick with 8 giving the vast majority of minutes to the top 6.

Hopefully Josh is back for Minnesota. He'll see action in every game the rest of the season. He's a great team player and contributor.

I think there are a few minutes each half for Josh O. Today we had clemmons at the point and Jok or Mike G at the 2 spot. but I dont think we want too much of Mike G and Clemmons on court at the same time.

Josh can spell Jok and a lot of it has to do with number of possesions and if it is an uptempo game.

This is what I think the minutes should be.

pg - gesell (34 min), clemmons (6min)

sg - jok (24 min), Ogelsby (10 min), clemmons (6 min)

sf - Uthoff (31 min), jok (3 min), uhl (6 min)

pf - white (34 min), Uthoff (3 min), uhl (3 min)

c - Woody (27 min), olaseni (13 min)

I am not as concerned with the number of bench players as I am with how many minutes are best 5 guys get.

Unless we are winning by 25 or more there should not be a single minute of time where we see 2 of the best three players on the bench. Gesell, white, and Uthoff...my main rule after the time would be that only one of them can sit on the bench at a time.

I agree with this for the most part. Give or take a few minutes pending who is hot. In other words, if Jok is feeling it play him more, if he's struggling give Clemmons and Oglesby a few more minutes. Same goes for Woody and Gabe. White, Gesell, and Uthoff should all be getting 30+ minutes a game barring foul trouble.

Coach will do what he thinks is right, with a lot of input from his assistants, and the flow of the game, and the foul issue, and the hot players, and the players that are frustrated, and so on.

In the last 2 games, Oglewinkel has played a combined 12 minutes while Jok has played more minutes than any other games during his short career here at Iowa.

We have won by a combined 34 points.

Coincidence or statistically irrelevant?

There will be times when Josh comes in to help settle down the flow, play defense, pass the ball well, and may even hit a couple of three's. And, it will give some other players a rest stop.

When Sap was in the game tonight, all we talked about in my section at the game was the fact that the frosh point guard from Maryland could not even take a step...it looked like Sap was glued to his body. Fran wanted two guards in the game to help break the Maryland press and to counter the two point guards Maryland was playing at the same time for much of the second half.

Jok should be taking all of Ogles-three's minutes, except when he needs a breather. But then you have Clemmons for that.

Sorry to all of the Oglesby apologists out there....he's a senior. What is going to improve, and improve remarkably the last 1/2 of the season?

*Nothing*...that's what. The 'experiment' is long over.

Thanks for being a teammate Josh, but really, truly, you don't belong on the court, no matter what you do in practice.

I know Clemmons or Ogelsby are going to have to play some minutes but really other than Olaseni, I don't like playing anybody off the bench.

Clemmons is a good defender and Ogelsby is a good passer but the offense takes a big hit with these guys on the floor.

True. That's why those two shouldn't be on the floor at the same time unless Iowa's up ten under three to play and solid defense is needed.

That's why White/Uthoff have to be on the floor when one of those two are in.

I thought Ogelsby could have helped us beat the press today. He's tall, a good passer, and doesn't turn it over. All crucial in beating things in beating the press. He's no different than Clemmons this year. Doesn't score much but isn't taking many shots so at least we are not wasting possessions. I'm fine with him getting 10 mins a game.

You answered your question. You need subs.

Your top 6 will get the majority of the minutes.

Let Fran do the coaching. He has a bit more experience than you do.
