Need to put this one behind us, get ready for NW

Overall, not what anyone was expecting. I think there was some fatigue left over from last weeks emotional double over time win at MSU. The lack of offense (even more so this week with the lack of running game), loss of momentum from missed points opportunities and defensive breakdowns all played a role. It was a bad game and was very difficult to watch.

All that said, we have Northwestern this week. Penn State got us good but the season isn't over and this team is still in a good position. We need to put this behind us and move on. I'm as frustrated as any fan with how we performed and I believe the players feel it more so.

Cotton seems to be a lone bright spot this week, with the way he has been returning, hopefully he keeps that up. Meyers is not going to miss many, just an off night. I think we see a more focused and determined team come out next week and the weeks to come. The defense can and will play better than they did tonight. We all need to hope for the passing game to come around fast.

Let's hope for a good week of film and practice and let's get that bad taste out of our mouths by getting a W next week! Go Hawks!

'Cats gave one away on Saturday. They will not do it again next weekend. Not against a team with no qb, injured rb's, injured ol's, and a defense that got exposed.

This was a conference loss, not a division loss, but I hold no illusions as to expectations for this year. It's going to be tough to get to five wins. Let alone six for bowl edgibility. As for divisional contention, thats a pipe dream. Given the way some of the fans were yesterday, this could get very ugly, and I don't just mean HN board meltdown.

In 2004, after we got slaughtered in Tempe, Doyle had one of these waiting in the middle of the weight room that following Monday. I know its hard as fans to "flush" a loss this bad but let's not give up on this team.

About time someone posted an honest up front comment instead of excuses as to why the Hawks lost.

42-3 Northwestern....We're going to be the whipping post for an angry Northwestern team that has given away two straight. And Patty Fitz will not call off the dogs.

The fact is we got the pounding we deserved yesterday by a team that may be the best team in the conference and was head and shoulders above us in talent. The crowd has been frustrated all season by our play, as they rightfully should, and I think Vandy said it best when he agreed that they got what they deserved yesterday, (whether he meant it or not). I don't think that the fans will abandon this team, but at the same time, I think the free pass and days of leaving the displeasure on the message boards are behind us.

Fans are going to support this program, but we're not going to sit through what we have seen repeatedly this season and sit there like we're happy with what were seeing both from the coaches and players.

Penn State was really good. Certainly, you can peruse any thread and discuss how bad Iowa was last night, but I want to point out that PSU was better than advertised, IMHO. I sit right behind the PSU bench, and the guy made some really great throws. The PSU lines dominated all night long. They may be the best team in the conference.

FWIW, this is the first game in many years when I left early. So, I'm disappointed, too. I simply cannot think of a more disppointing loss.

That's how NW rolls. They come back and win in amazing fashion sometimes, and sometimes they lose like that, too. They're called losses. I'm not ready to say NW is awesome.

Yeah, I was thinking that during Nebraska's comeback, that NW would be yearning to give the Hawks a hurting. That said, I won't guarantee it will materialize. Per my sig, I'm just going to watch it unfold and whatever happens, happens.

I'm not quite sure about how "disappointing" I view that loss. I've had a lot of disappointing loses (ISU and CMU this year), however last night I thought was different. Last night I left wondering when the last time that we were that dominated. I honestly couldn't think of another game in which we were that out matched (USC game, maybe).
