Need more speed at WR and DBack - anybody know of any speedy recruits

The hawks are getting better but there was a major difference in speed between these two teams mostly in the secondaries and WR corps/.

Our receivers couldnt get much separation and their secondary made great plays. Their receivers got open routinely and most times our DBacks

They won the battle in the trenches but neither team ran the ball well enough to win this game so it turns out that their passing game beats our passing game, and a lot of that had to do with speed.

MSU won most of the battles in the passing game.

Even with their great defense the hawks could have been close and made a game of it so if we had some more speed and playmaking we can win most of these games.

Why would they wanna play for kf?

^^^ haha you may wonder but 2002 and 2004 come to mind. I also think with fletcher, considine, Spivey, Sanders , and several other DBacks who have been drafted and played for multiple years in the NFL, those recruits would want to play at Iowa.

Now granted we are not like Okie St or Oregon but the hawks are playign more uptempo and getting off 35-50 passes a game.

Actually I was pretty impressed with the receiving corps today. We saw some real depth, and guys like Meerkat, Riley, Smith, and Powell did snow the ability to get open, Rudock just wasn't throwing the deep ball very well at all. The biggest problems were (1) the drive where they put Draper and forgot to tell him we were playing tackle football instead of two hand touch, (2) Lowery getting beat deep, (3) Rudock's arm strength on the deep ball, (4) never being able to establish any run game, and being more gullible than Charlie Brown on special team fakes.

Tough game. Spurty played well, and were the better team on the field.

False the DBs are getting beat cause they dont know what they are doing. A couple of them are trying to jump routes like Hyde used to and getting burnt in the process. The whole secondary looks poorly coached. They are not just getting beat because of speed.

Wr need to catch fricken ball. Speed is not what this team is lacking. It may not be their specialty but its not the problem.

^^totally disagree, you are trying to tell me that a good upgrade in speed in 10-12 players at WR and DBack wouldnt help alot.

I was wondering when Iowa gets back to being "Iowa" will the rest of the teams be so much better that we won't see 8 wins again? If that Happens will KF simply say, gee, those guys aren't bad, their pretty good, they're gonna win some games you watch! I guess that asks the question, has KF lost touch with what it takes to win a championship. Is it possible they Barta and Ferentz need to ask the right questions and think about what it takes to move the program up about 5 notches. Stop plodding along working their ***** off and not making real progress relative to the competition. Sawing really too hard to busy sawing to sharpen the saw.

Why so they can out run people to not catch the ball? Or out run them to not tackle?

haha that is pretty funny what you said ^^

But the problem I saw today and in other games is our DBs are always trailing the other teams receivers and very seldom in a position to make a play/

Lowery had one break up today but face it we have been beat alot and lucky to have not given up a lot more big plays. We need some guys who can play better bump and run and who can close..

I would love to have and Andy Brodell and a CJ Jones on this team.

More speed is always welcomed but I dont think its the problem.

Two dbs that got burned a couple times today were trying to jump routes. That used to be okay back when we has Sash and Greenwood.I havent seen anyone just get outrun on a route. Lowery has the speed and skill enough to jump routes and recover sometimes but hes gotten caught in almost every game including for a td agains ISU and NIU.

Hyde used to play off of guys and he got burnt his Sr yr a bunch for it.

Powell is fast he just isnt really used much for some reason.

Speed doesn't matter if you don't know where to point it. Iowa's receiving corps looked L O S T a lot of the time today. On Jake's short throw (not convinced that it wasn't a comeback route) Shumpert never turned around for the ball. He just ran down the sideline. Looked like a mis-communication to me. Jake overthrew the ball to Cotton. I don't think arm strength is a problem necessarily.

Also, Iowa's DB's don't have the speed to recover if they get out of position, but it also seems like the game is moving too fast for Draper, and King. They aren't able to react soon enough for us to be blitzing our safeties, especially since our safeties are not burners. I think Lowery just takes chances when he doesn't have safety support...overall, he is a serviceable corner when he doesn't take foolish risks.

How about giving the following players an opportunity:

WR--Maurice Fleming, Derrick Mitchell, Jr., Andre Harris, Derrick Willies, A.J. Jones & Trev Hadachek

DB--Greg Mabin, Malik Rucker, Ruben Lile & Solomon Warfield

I know Rucker, Warfield, Mitchell, Jr., Harris, Willies, Jones & Hadachek are true freshmen. Fleming, Mabin & Lile are redshirt freshmen.

I know there's speed amongst this group of young talent, but are probably not ready for B10 play.

I would imagine Ferentz is redshirting Rucker, Warfield, Mitchell, Jr., Harris, Willies, Jones & Hadachek.

Not a lot of speed from the state of Iowa based on the high school level at these key positions.
