so i want to start watching NFL but i didn't grow up in a family where we had an NFL team my dad or grandpa cheered for (all hawks). I live in IC and I'd like to be able to watch my team most sundays. who shold i root for and why?

Chicago Bears

IC has a large Chicago influence. they are on TV in IC nearly every week. They dont suck balls like the vikings/chiefs. only a 3 hour drive to go to a game. ditka. Bears. Polish sausage

Not to be rude but, really? Choose for yourself...it's not that hard. Watch a few games and decide for yourself.

Vikings are on tv alot play similar to Iowa, but I think the Lions should be your team few hawks on that team and they are on the upswing.

If you don't have a favorite team, do you have a favorite player? Root for the team he's on and eventually you'll like that team.

Go with the soon to be back to back superbowl champs. Should have many more good years to come as long as arodg stays healthy

If I was an NFL no0b, I'd jump on the San Fran 49ers bandwagon RIGHT NOW.
Jim Harbaugh is already doing great things there, and they will only improve.
I foresee a very strong and successful run for teh 49er over the next decade.

I just cheer for whichever team has hawks playing. The colts used to be a really good team to cheer for with both Bob Sanders and Dallas Clark.

KC could be fun if Moeaki wasn't injured and Stanzi was under center.

I like to cheer for the Jets because of Shonn Greene, but other than him... I don't really like their team that much.

Vikings are the team I cheer for every Sunday (live in MN) and they have Ballard and Greenway and Reisner... but, I'll warn you it is painful being a vikes fan at times... not that we don't know what that is like already as Hawk fans, but you get the idea.

Basically I still cheer for the Hawkeyes even on Sunday. ;)

Ostrich.

Da Bears!

This is an intriguing topic to me, as I don't think I have ever encountered someone with this dilemma. I am old enough to remember when a sports fan automatically rooted for the team that was geographically the closest to your home, and you stuck with this team through thick and thin.
Course, that was way before superstations, cable tv, internet, fantasy leagues, and rooting for the name on the back of the jersey, instead of the front.
I would agree with other posters that it makes sense to root for a team that you can see on tv the most, or that your local community has a sizable fan base.
I have no idea what I would do if the Twins and/or Vikings were to leave the Twin Cities - and in the case of the Vikings, I just may have to switch to another team if all of this moving talk pans out.
