NBA Lottery Tonight/Impact where LBJ goes?

Anyone else interested to see how this turns out tonight? If New Jersey wins the lottery and takes Wall, LeBron might be talked in to going there to play with Wall, and Brook Lopez. Same could be said for the Clippers (Wall, Gordon, Griffen, etc.) On the other hand you have a team like Minnesota that could win and have 3 starting PG's on their team (Wall, Rubio, Flynn). Curious what other NBA followers think will happen or what they think of the lottery process.

IMO LJ would never go to the Clippers no matter what. I think the balls fall with the %'s and NJ gets #1 and takes Wall. I believe Minn. has 3 of the top 30 picks or something so they could definitely be wheeling and dealing, I expect Rubio's rights to be traded as well. I think the Kings get the 2 pick and take Wesley Johnson as a replacement for Kris Martin. The Clippers get the 3rd pick and do something stupid. Kentucky will have 4 players drafted in the 1st round. Just some of my randoms. I love the NBA draft, much better than the NFL draft, if you don't get picked in round 1 you better be a hard worker or your not gonna make it...

Minnesota has 5 of the 60 picks and 3 of them in 1st rd (1-5 depending on lottery, 16, and 23). They will definetely trade some of them and I agree with a relatively weak PG crop compared to last year, wouldn't surprise me to see them flip Rubio for a 2 or a true 5. I think they need to trade Love or AJeff as well because they can't play together.

Kentucky will actually probably have 5 players picked in the first round. I would love to see the Jazz get the top pick. Also it'll be interesting to see who ends up with Cousins, I think he could have the most potential out of anybody in this draft.

If someone goes its going to be Love. For some reason I get the feeling that they think Jefferson is a cornerstone to their franchise type of player. Maybe if they get that true 5 he will show something we haven't seen yet. With Minny's apparent love for PG's they may package all of their picks to trade up to 1 to get Wall haha

I don't get Minnesota's strategy at all. They have two undersized centers, Love and Jefferson, that don't play well together. They took three point guards in the first round and even if Rubio would have played here, him and Flynn can't be on the court at the same time since Rubio isn't strong enough and Flynn is too short to guard most two-guards. Plus Rambis is still trying to run the triangle which doesn't suit their talent at all.

You are spot on. The same can be said of all the perennial lottery teams. Do they not look at the successful franchises and try to model themselves after those franchises? Sometimes I think they take the approach of, "oh well we're going to be in the lottery again next year, we'll just take the best available and get a piece that we actually need next year in the lottery." But they never do, they just draft the same player that they drafted the year before, or go for some Euro that no one's ever heard of and won't even be in the states for 3 years if ever.

I think MN's Kahn is all about value right now - makes sense. They couldn't trade Jefferson last year because he had little value coming off knee surgery. I think they'd like to move him (after determining he and Love couldn't play together this year). So he's probably on the block. Sure, they'd love to add a center to play with Love, but there are like four centers in the NBA. You can't give up a very good player just to pick up an average center.

The Rubio pick is looking smarter and smarter. His value has increased from last year, when they got him at number 5. Several scouts have gone on record saying he'd be the second player taken after Wall this year if he was in the draft.

Kahn has acquired a ton of assets (including cap space) as they retool. He's put the organization in good shape - just need to acquire a few players now.

SOOO sick of hearing about james! This is the 3rd thread with him in the headline!

When the best player in the NBA (arguably) is an unrestricted free agent you better prepare yourself for a lot of LeBron headlines!

I'm not sick of it yet but i'm pretty freaking close

What has Rubio done in Spain this year? I read earler in the season he was struggling but havent seen much since. Also, Rubio cant play in the NBA for 2 more full seasons right?

After seeing what Evans, Jennings and Curry did this season i dont think anyone can say that anything Kahn did last year is smart. MN could've had two of the three

True. But they could at least wait until the playoffs finish, couldn't they? It is disrespectful to the other four teams still playing. But I do get what you're saying.

I agree with you on Evans, but I think if you put Curry or Jennings on the Wolves last year they aren't as successful. Rubio has been playing well in the Euro Final 4 from what it says on ESPN. He's a valuable asset, but for Kahn he needs to have some assets that will payoff in the short term or he'll be out of a job.

Yep, can't argue on Flynn vs. Curry. Looks like a bad choice.

There have been several articles on Rubio lately. He really came on and is considered an outstanding talent playing at the highest level outside the NBA (definitely higher than major college ball). Plus, he's still like 18 or 19. I think he could come over after next year. If he really wants to, he could probably even do it now.

Kahn doesn't get nearly enough credit for clearing up cap space. That's the name of the game in the NBA. He has stockpiled assets for the franchise.

I don't think the lottery will have much impact on LBJ's decision. He wants to go to or stay with a team that is going to contend and most if not all of the lottery teams are 4-5 years away from contending, 2-3 if LBJ joins. The sad part about all these teams clearing cap space the last few years to afford a max free agent is that they have become so bad in process that no max free agent would want to go there. I am in the camp and slightly bias that LBJ should either stay in Cleveland or come to the Bulls!
