From article:

Iowa -- Needs: WR, DL, DB. 247Sports Team Class Rank: 55 -- If you watched an Iowa game last season, then you know that this team desperately needs help at wide receiver. Whether it's Damond Powell, Anjeus Jones, Derrick Willies or Derrick Mitchell Jr., that quartet of receiver prospects will all get a chance to earn playing time in 2013. The Hawkeyes could also use an infusion of talent on defense, particularly on a defensive line that finished dead-last in the Big Ten with only 13 sacks last season. I'm not sure there's a great pass-rusher in this bunch, but defensive tackles Brant Gressel and Nathan Bazata, along with linebacker John Kenny could help. All in all, this class is like a lot of Kirk Ferentz's recruiting classes, nothing spectacular but pretty solid from top to bottom.

I wish we hadn't lost Kenney and Hill but we did. Past those losses though I agree with the notes above. We got some players in areas of need and I think we have "solid" players. Lots more 3* guys than we have had in the past. No 4 or 5* but average *s I think is up there compared to last 5 years. If we land Spear I will feel much better and I agree with other posters that he may well grow into a nice DE potentially.

Where's all the critics? This class is so bad, right? KF is only getting MAC talent if that, right? I'm so glad there are a couple posters who have enough time and such a great life that they can bash every recruit without knowing much about them besides their own football expert opinion.

This class, while lacking in star power, isn't actually as bad as some make it out to be. Yes, Iowa won't end up with a single consensus 4-star this year after losing Kenney, Hill, and Young, but Iowa will almost certainly end up with its fewest number of 2-star recruits since Rivals started their online database in 2002. In addition, Iowa had a majority of their recruits committed before the end of the summer, meaning that the coaches saw the talent to offer the player before seeing senior film. Both of those signs are encouraging, despite the class's lack of star power. Overall, this is a good class that could develop into something special if the coaching staff can get back to being the kings of the player development world.

You realize your only asking for this thread to be sabotaged. Not so loud, they're bound to show up eventually.

The writer is still giving KF a pass on recruiting because of the Bob Sanders and Dallas Clarks....he fails to realize those ships sailed 10 years ago.

While I won't call the class bad, or bash players until they've had their chance on the field, you really can't be happy with this class, can you? Do you enjoy having worse classes than Indiana, Illinois, NW (and nearly as bad as Purdue)? My God....Illinois, Indiana and Purdue are doormats. We keep recruiting like them and we will eventually find ourselves on their level (pretty damn close now). For a guy that, yes I'm going to say it, makes as much as KF and who's had some of the recent success he's had should not be pulling in worse classes than those mentioned above. Period. They have the same challenges if not more than we do. I'm getting pizzed writing this so I will stop now....

I usually wait to see what these kids produce on the field before judging them. That being said, we weren't in a bowl game and KF had made a statement about focusing more on recruiting. You could spin it negatively that if this is how the staff focuses on recruiting, then we are very poor at it (You could make assumptions if other schools weren't in bowl game and focused on getting higher ranked kids in, they probably could).

We are missing a lot of speed, and playmakers on offense. We are missing speed and playmakers on defense. Does this class, or any of the previous two appear to have any of these type of players? They may eventually turn into studs, but we don't really have the luxury of waiting another two to three years for them to blossom.

Another dimsal year and KF will definitely be on the hot seat and the program will have Lick - like negativity surrounding it (we're almost there now)

He is saying that KF is still trying to win B1G championships like he did 10 years ago with walk-ons and under recruited players.

Ferentz and his staff can't keep doing what they did in the past, it isn't working. They need to change, recruiting is one of those things.

Edited for accuracy.

I wish we were getting MAC talent.

What makes you think its not "pretty solid from top to bottom"?

It's actually a decent class, as thejumper5 summed up nicely. But by making laffy posts leaning to the negative side, I help myself lower expectations, making it more likely I'll be pleasantly surprised in 2 years.
