Name the 1st play from scrimmage vs Minny

thought about it all week, Its gonna be Weisman to the left.

That's what everybody expects.

I say direct snap to Weisman, flea-flicker Rudock to KMart.

KMM takes a punt return (when Minney goes 3 and out in their first series) for a 90 year TD.

Rout on.

Rudock in the shotgun and gives the ball to Weisman on a read option to the right. Weisman gains 7 yards over Walsh and Van Sloten.

Gophers defense really likes to pursue. I predict we will see Rudock gain some good yards at least a couple times by keeping it on the read option this week.

I think it will be similar to the deep ball play that failed on 3rd and 1 from the NIU game, but Ruddock will first fake the hand-off to Weisman.

The whole stadium knows it is a stretch play, zone blocking over Scherff and Bofelli. So, I think the play-action to that, (since Minnesota will bring 8 in the box and cheat their safeties up), have Jake roll out to the right and throw a dart to Smith on a 12-yard out pattern... which he drops at the sideline.

How is that for specific?

Mn wants to start fast, so they cheat up and stack the box. They bring a blitz in hopes of shaking our young qb. Jake dumps it of to cj and it goes for 20 to 25 yards.

If Iowa has a good KO return and start outside the 30, I say they take a shot down the field off play action. If they start inside the 30, it will be a Wiesman run to the short side.

By the way, I actually like the off tackle run on the first play. It has to be demoralizing to the other team when they know exactly what's coming but Weisman still gets 4-6 yards.

It's not usually the 1st play that bothers me; it's the follow-up that makes or breaks the drive.

Of course it will be Weisman, left, most likely to the short-side. If he gets 3-6 yards, the 2nd play will be to CJ, out of twin-tight set. If he gets 6+ yards, the 2nd play will be Weisman, right.

I know the reasoning behind it, but I don't think you have an advantage when you run out of the two tight end set unless you outweigh the defense by quite a bit. All that does is bring all the defenders closer to the ball carrier. I like running play action pass out of it.
