My thoughts post-Minn

- We need Basabe. His toughness, defense, post-up abilities are so vital to this team
- Oglesby is playing the best ball of his career
- Marble could still win B1G POTY
- White looked very engaged but still needs to realize he can dominate the game
- Their bigs were in foul trouble the whole game but we rarely had post-entries - Olaseni had zero I believe
- Fran doesn’t know how to utilize Uthoff yet, and Jarrod isn’t sure what his role is.
- Clemmons needs more minutes
- McCabe shouldn’t be in close games past the under 4 min media timeout.
- We need to play better team defense. Our zone was not active and gave up uncontested shots.

I would agree with everything except Marble. He won't be sniffing that award when his team finishes 10-8 or gasp worse. But, I would add, more Gessell and less Marble with under 2 minutes to go in the game.

If we learn how to feed the ball inside, we win nearly every close loss this year. Iowa is just reaaaaaally bad at getting the ball cleanly inside in a half court set.

I agree with your assessment. I was disappointed in the outcome, but I have tried to keep in perspective that Slime Time has been out for the past two games. His toughness makes a difference in the middle. Plus, I hate the term 50-50 plays, but we have failed to grab many lose balls the last 2 games without Basabe.

- Oglesby is playing the best ball of his career He is hitting some shots...not sold on his defense at all...but I will take the scoring
- Marble could still win B1G POTY NO WAY
- White looked very engaged but still needs to realize he can dominate the game I was engaged and I am 50+ and overweight
- Their bigs were in foul trouble the whole game but we rarely had post-entries - Olaseni had zero I believe This team is awful at post entries...too much dribble
- Fran doesn’t know how to utilize Uthoff yet, and Jarrod isn’t sure what his role is. This staff has made most of our guys clueless...how would anyone know their role. Take Mike for instance, how many times do you see Arizona, MSU, Syracuse, Michigan take their PG out in crunch time???? I mean seriously
- Clemmons needs more minutes NO WAY
- McCabe shouldn’t be in close games past the under 4 min media timeout. AGREED

To me this team is just soft...and we dribble way too much. I do not care what level you are talking, you dribble more then 3 or 4 times and the ball is gone! In the 2nd half how many times did we get dribble happy...and double and tripled down on the ball...and steal after steal

IMO, Oglesby is playing the best basketball on the team right now. He single handily kept us in the game with Wisky and you could argue he kept us in the game with the 3 consecutive 3's tonight. I don't see how we can take him out of the starting lineup.

Almost all of those slow dribble in to traffic steals were on Marble, Marble dribbles way to much, and Fran actually encourages it.

After sleeping on it 2 things come to mind. Our bench was out scored 26 to 9, that doesn't usually happen. Hollins and Buggs both had career highs. How often are 2 players on one team going to both do it on he same night? At one time they made 12 shots in a row. We caught them on a night they could not miss.

There seems to be a lot of things he encourages....like green lights....Why on earth are you not slowing down for a few seconds to get abetter look instead we chuck up a 3 when we have no rebounders inside.....I cannot wrap my little finger around why he allows this to happen when we're still in the game....pound the ball inside, or create a one on one situation....we were stripped how many times...no strength in handling the rock.....and now we travel to Indiana, which I believe will be more of the same...

My biggest complaints about Marble is that when the game is on the line he gets selfish. Generally that is fine with your best player, but he all of a sudden makes dumb decisions that he wouldn't make early in the game. Driving into triple teams or forcing jumpers.

Either the team doesn't have a high bball IQ or Fran's style doesn't make as much sense. I love the run and gun, but down 4 with 1 minute left and you set a play up for a 3? Go for 2 and make it a 2 point game and play defense. I don't get that.

I agree that Fran doesn't know how to use Uhtoff and honestly I think the depth has gone to his head causing him to play players when they shouldn't be in there. For example, I like McCabe, other than he plays horrible defense because he's not quick enough and can't box anyone out, but he hustles all the time which is great. But he is not a guy that needs to be in when the game is in crunch time. Put Uhtoff in his place, the kid is a better shooter and a better rebounder and since he is quicker he is a better defender.

At the beginning of the year I think we would all have been happy with where this team sits. They don't have any super star players. Only a few top 150 recruits. This team is doing well with what it has. It has beaten the teams it is supposed to beat (Even at Minny would normally be a toss up). But they haven't gotten over the mental hump. The good teams (Bo Ryan's teams) have the mental and physical toughness. They are instinctual and don't let the moment get to them. That is my biggest concern with Iowa. If you don't have the studs you have to have mental toughness.

D1 shooters who can catch the ball with little or no defensive pressure will make baskets! Our guys were lazy on close outs...hands down...no fast feet chopping. Imagine Josh having no pressure in his face...easy money for both of those guys.
