My Money is on Coe playing Defense

With the verbal commits that came in yesterday I can't see him being a RB unless he is a FB. The Bullock kid is not that heavy but he looks like he could add 15 lbs and he already runs downhill like IA runners are supposed to. He also hits the hole hard. Canzeri looks very similar to him. The depth at RB has been taken care of. Coe just looks too good at LB or DE as a prospect. I add DE as a possible position because in Iowa's S&C I could see him add muscle and weight.

I love seeing big backs like Coker and Greene run the ball but Coe on tape doesn't have the speed that those two do and he doesn't hit the hole that hard for a big guy. I was more impressed with the running of Bullock and Canzeri. Maybe the coaches keep Coe at RB but I just don't think it will happen.

When the coaches spoke with Canzeri yesterday, they told him his commit would move Bullock to D. Coe was our top RB recruit this year. You don't get your top commit at any position and then move them somewhere else.

This has been discussed multiple times. Coe will play RB until he (with the help of the coaches) decides he wants to play Defense.

I think McCall and Canzeri could both be special.

Canzeri seems to be hella fast. Would be great on returns, no?

Looks that way to me. Love his running style sees the hole and hits it instantly. If Ferentz didn't have a history of playing it safe on punt returns i'd think he'd have a shot back there as a Freshman.

On the plus side, if this kid is as fast and explosive as you all say he is, then he makes Hyde look like a pretty "safe" option, no? :D

Check the explosive acceleration out of traffic in the play at 1:08. Holy crap, I thought it was a hitch in the video at first.

Well, be prepared to part with your money, then. KF flat out said that as long as Coe stays in the 250-255 LB range, he will stay at RB. He said that if he kept growing, then they'd re-evaluate. Keep in mind, KF and KOK absolutely LOVE big backs. Coe will be at RB for the forseeable future.

All I could see from the video is that Canzeri is fast and that he played behind one heck of an offensive line. There was only one run where a defender actually got a hand on him.

What level of school is he at? If that is at a bigger school that's pretty damn impressive. The best part was nearly all those runs were inside the tackles, he wasn't just running to the corner.

Supposedly the largest-school class in New York state.

Loving a big back and having a big back that can be a RB are different things. They will allow him a shot at RB but he is slow to the hole and doesn't have the cut ability that Iowa RBs need. I believe Dallas Clark was a LB when he came in. I believe Robert Gallery was a TE when he came in. 250 or 255 lbs at RB is not common. Coker is 230, Greene is 225 or 230, those are big backs. Coe could be the best LB ever at Iowa. He will at best won't even crack #5 at RB.

I see the depth chart as Coker (1), Johnson (2), McCall (3), Canzeri (4), Bullock & Coe redshirt with possible position switches. The comparison of Canzeri to Danny Woodhead makes me think he is the one KF knows will have the ability. He stated Coe will get a chance to start at RB, he tends to let kids have their chance at certain positions and then moves them when they figure out they are best suited for another spot.
