Most Realistic Possibilities for New Coach

I would love for Pearl to come to Iowa, but I just don’t see Bruce coming back. I think he leverages the strong Iowa interest into getting more money from Tennessee and ends up staying there. I think Barta knows that he at least has to make a strong offer to Bruce to at least say he tried, but in the end Pearl will remain a Volunteer.

I think Iowa’s coaching search will come down to 2 names: Tony Barbee and Steve Forbes. After reading up on each candidate in the past few days, I think either of these 2 guys would do a good job at Iowa. Some people might not consider either of these two guys to be that “big splashâ€￾ name, but I think both of these guys could get the program heading in the right direction as soon as next year.

In my opinion, the ultimate determining factor in coaching in today’s world is recruiting and both of these guys have shown that they can hold their own in the recruiting world.

I think both would bring a much needed up tempo style of play and I think that both guys would probably be able to retain at least 3 out of the 4 incoming freshman recruits for next year’s team.

I see Barta taking his time on the announcement of the new coach. I don’t think the hire will take place before the Final 4 weekend.

Overall, I agree with Jon Miller in that I think this coaching change was the right decision to make. I am excited about the opportunity for a new coach to come into this program and re-energize both the product on the floor and the interest in the fan base.

I remember reading a post that our next hire would be a jaw dropper. Those two are more head scratchers than jaw droppers.

I agree that these two appear to be leading the pack. I am leaning towards Barbe at this point. He's got the better head coaching resume. The only issue with him is that he may not be a long term Hawkeye. Which to me is fine. Get some players in here have a couple decent years, leave with some players in place for the next guy. It's easier to find a coach after a couple of good years then to search when your team is in the basement.
I think Forbes would be a good fit after Barbe comes in and leaves some players in the program. Then Forbes could coach here for the rest of his career, close to home and what have you.

I'm just glad someone finally told us who the realistic options are... Now I can finally back away from the keyboard

Just messing with you. I speculate as well. I just have a sneaking suspicion that, just like last time, we're gonna get hit with a name from way out in left field. Not to mention the fact that these boards seem to persuade me to a new candidate at least once a day.

Also, maybe we're downplaying the whole "money will not be an issue". If the U of I is willing to offer a disgusting amount of money, that could drastically change the landscape.
