More thuggery from the fighting Izzos?

During yesterday's game it appears MSU's Branden Dawson turns and slugs Purdue's Travis Carroll in the chest after a shot and some rough positioning for the possible rebound. So far the only footage is from the BTN full floor play-by-play camera, which shows Dawson with a clenched fist turning and appearing to throw it into Carroll's chest. Carroll appears to be knocked back and recoil a bit, and Dawson glares at him. See the footage here:

Michigan State denies Branden Dawson punch « Big Ten Network

Sparty is denying a punch was thrown, even asserting through a statement from the MSU'S sports information office that other camera angles show there was nothing. So far that footage has not surfaced, however. See the BTN clip above and draw your own conclusions.

To it's credit, BTN has not backed down from its original claim or pulled the clip. Guessing the league office will investigate.

Sure looks like a punch. That said, though, I can't recall the Fighting Izzos ever systematically sporting a lot of dirty play as a program.

The Fighting Dantonios, however....

Last year's game in Lansing was solid thuggery and they were paying us back for the loss in IC the year before. We humiliated them. After the game one of the Spartans, extremely downcast said: I can't believe we lost to Iowa.....

The definitely played gangster ball and we have not forgotten it.....

I remember Nix or Paine slamming the ball and then punching the goal post as hard as he could roaring.....What a Punk.....

Good side to it other than Fran slamming the chair was they lost at NW the next game. Concentrated too emotionally on us and burned themselves out.....

From that angle it does look like he slugged him but it's really hard to say. What does the allegedly slugged player say?

From that angle that far away There is no undisputable evidence to show there was a "punch" thrown. The call on the field stands....No Call.

From that angle, yes it looks like a punch was thrown. But hardly definitive evidence. In this day and age, that can't be the only camera angle available.

B1G needs to step in, I don't think Carroll or his teammate react in that way if it weren't a punch. Also, the way Iggo talks to him after...

To see Dawson then stare him down, or continue on talking after is happened also leads me to think it was a punch. The only defense is that he was celebrating, but well, that would still be bs. Inadvertent, or not it still looks like a punch.

Purdue needs to make it a point to have it investigated.
