Jared Clauss offers his observations from Iowa's 32-31 loss to Central Michigan in this week's Monday Morning Quarterback.

Jon- to be honest I find these MMQ posts to be pretty "bland" to put it nicely. I would be helpful if someone with the insight as a player and analyst could give us some better review of the game. You read this post and you would come away thinking Iowa won the game. I am sure Mr. Clauss does not want to bash the program, but some more objective review of the game and the state of the program from the eyes of a former great player would be more interesting than what it is today.
And while I am at it, the videos on this site are getting pretty out of control.

The problem is you are not going to get an honest accessment from anyone that covers Iowa sports for a living because they are afraid of ruffling feathers and losing their 'access'.
Jon comes as close to any of offering his true opinion. But he still pulls his punches.
Things may not be as bad as we think they are. This team is a few bounces of the ball of being undefeated. We just are not getting the breaks we have in the past. I'm just as frustrated because we should be better that those bounces. The 2009 season could have been a train wreck if not for those bounces.

I like the optimism, but Iowa just lost at Kinnick Stadium to one of the worst teams in the MAC
I'm in agreement with this. My wife, who knows next to nothing about football but loves the Hawks to death, could have told you more than half of what Jared put in there.
Some like Jared's takes, others prefer HawkeyeGameFilm's takes. Each is different. Ultimately the choice to click and read is up to you.

Jon, I understand your point. I think they could both be assets to the site. Gamefilm's is a great "clinical" breakdown of the games. Jared's takes could be great, they are just boring coach speak. The title of MMQ is pretty misleading, because that is not what he does. They are just homer takes that I think could be better as a former player. Take the feedback for what it is worth.
Jon, I'm just curious, but is Jared part of the media, or is he doing this as a "fan's perspective, with football experience". What is his connection to the program at the moment?
No, he is a former Big Ten and NFL football player who watches Iowa games and provides some thoughts on what he sees. His stuff will likely always focus on some of the positives he sees. So you have advanced warning as to what value you want to place on it.
I actually prefer to listen to Marv Cook as he will pretty much tell you like he sees it. Like me, he hates what he calls "stupid football". I didn't get the chance to catch him on Cotlar today like I usually do on Tuesdays, but I'm sure he was at no loss for words on the performance (or lack thereof) on Saturday.
