Mobile QB

I miss Brad Banks running the plays. The thing I liked best is he had the ability,on the many boot legs we run, to actually take off running and make a play.

I'm not knocking our QB in any way, it would just add an additional threat to our offense again!

I agree, having that dual threat QB was great. There is such a thing as a mobile QB, and then there was Brad Banks.. He was one of a kind at Iowa. We haven't had many QB's that could run like that. That said, I'll settle for a great passer any day. ;-)

There just aren't that many out there that have the brains to run a pro-styly offense. For spread and option they are nice because they don't have to run through progressions just read the situation and pick one of the options that is designed in the play, if that option is not there they run...

Besides being good at taking off and running, Banks was also excellent at buying time in the pocket. He always seemed to be able to make one guy miss to give his receivers that extra second or so they needed to get open.

It takes as many "brains" to run the pro style as it does the spread. The only thing that is different is the type of run and pass reads you're doing. In fact, if you want to get down to it, some of the spread option offenses are actually more sophisticated today.

The main difference is that a pro style offense is typified by a pocket-passing QB, so teams that run those packages are going to concentrate on those type of athletes and those athletes that want to run that style are going to look toward those schools first. Takes a talented, intelligent athlete to run both.
