and that's the other thing, was this guy murdered, did he commit suicide, or did he "take the money and run"? Could be any of the three imo.
It would explain a lot about why nobody talked (the mother included). It doesn't excuse it, but would explain it. If you saw what was going on, and you know that you or your family was at risk, would you talk?
Guys/gals, at least know facts before you make speculative posts.
Gricar handled, and was involved in, NUMEROUS mob-type cases over the years. Philadelphia and Pittsburgh have lots of mob activity at various operational and ethnic levels ("traditional" Italian/La Cosa Nostra/'Ndrangheta, Russian/Baltic, Jamaican, Black/African-American, etc.), and the Philly LCN also has heavy involvement in Atlantic City over the years.
All the more reason to think that there may be an organized crime/extortion component to the psu case, no?
C'mon, salty bob, you don't know anything more or less than the rest of us. Stop with the scoffing.

Go back and read the 2005 coverage. ZERO reference/speculation of PSU-related involvement.
Do you REALLY believe there is an LCN/mob component to the PSU program? Just because Paterno is of Italian extraction? Or because it involves child rape? What, exactly?
Gricar was involved in mob-type cases over the years. He disappeared in 2005. There was no police involvement in 2002 case, thus no DA/SA involvement. 1998 case he declined to prosecute, but there was hardly widespread outrage.
Do you REALLY believe the LCN/mob would protect a child rapist?!
