Mississippi ST fired Moorehead

What a dumpster fire the state of MS is with football. Bet Brandon Smith has to be counting his lucky stars every day that neither MSU or Ole Miss ended up offering him early enough for him to want to stay down there. Wonder how that media dude that stirred up the pot after we beat them with his racial undertones is taking it...HA

Wow, Miss St must think they are a blue blood 10+ win team each year. Two bowl games, maybe two losses in bowls, but hell a slightly winning record, and he hasnt even got his recruits in place much yet.

They are like Nebby and other teams with no patience and grasping at straws

No doubt it's a mess.
As far as Brandon Smith goes geographically he was closer to Memphis then either of the MS schools. Not sure if they were in on him or not. But his mom maybe dad too but mom for sure was a track athlete at MSU back in the day and he was a fan of theirs I believe growing up. But they and Ole Miss didn't get in on him till well after he'd already committed to Iowa. His recruiting story and how Bell found him is a pretty good one if you want to look it up. We got lucky getting him

Michael Oher, from the famous movie, had heavy in state pressure to go to Tennessee. Remember the threats of blackmail and the admissions people trying to change the academic rules on him in midstream? But the Tuohy's were Old Miss through and through and that's where Michael, against impossible odds, ended up going.

Yeah the Tuohys or however you spell their name were big boosters at Ole Miss. His recruitment was fishy as all get out. I don't think the movie was exactly all that accurate with how they portrayed that...

What almost makes it worse is the lavish praise heaped on by both parties. "(Coach Moorhead) will have a bright future in coaching down the road".

From Moorhead: "Part of us will always bleed Maroon and White". WTF? They fired you after two seasons with bowl bids in each season, and that's part of your response? How about, "F 'em, they can have their perennial 4th/5th/6th place slot in the $EC West, Starkville is WAY too much of a dump for this level of grief"

I’m still trying to find the more detailed article about the fight at practice that knocked their starting QB out of the bowl game . The program seemed to be in total disarray

Aw , I hadnt heard about these types of issues. Losing the team and control of the program is not good.

MSU is a 3rd class institution and low class football program. Not much a program at all really, just a typical illicit recruiting apparatus. I don't think they are terribly selective about the people they recruit either...beyond athletic prowess.

I hear that Mike Leach is a candidate for the MSU job, which is interesting when you consider the reason Leach was fired at Texas Tech.

Sounds more like a political issue rather than a performance issue.

He probably told somebody "important" to get bent.

Joe probably wasn't HC material and he certainly was not a fit in that state. Bad hire. Whats silly is that they waited until January...after how many programs lost and hired new coaches? I think the well is dry for new HCs. I suspect that the boosters have far too much influence there.

It's the SEC; however, I suspect the boosters don't see it as too much influence, rather it's the expected amount of influence.

Agree that some guys just aren't cut out to be HCs. The NFL has had a lot of coordinators elevated to HCs who just don't cut it. For one, Norv Turner was a very good OC, but sucked being a HC, despite the several chances he had at it.

Didn't he lock Craig James' kid in an equipment room or something like that? Not sure how that relates to Miss. St.

He and the James gang clearly didn't get along. Doubt that would keep him from getting the MSU gig, especially in the "morally flexible" SEC
