Missed opportunity

Looking at what happened in the world of college football this weekend, Iowa missed out big. There were EIGHT teams in the top 25 that lost this week and that would have been a great chance to catch up a bit. Obviously beating OSU would've been huge in and of itself, but when you see all the shifting going on it just makes this hurt even more. We were TIED going into the fourth! Why can't we finish games. Every since about 2008 it seems it is impossible to close out.

Obviously the team has progressed this year (I was surprised at how well they stayed with OSU), but the Hawks just keep missing their opportunities.

Were you penciling in Iowa for a BCS bowl? That's the only reason Iowa would need to be concerned with being in the Top 25. Even with a win today, this team wouldn't nationally relevant; Iowa wins, the country mocks at the Big Ten, we don't crack the Top 25.

All that really matters at this point is for the Hawks to win out in the Legends division and hope that MSU looses twice in division contests. If that happens we get a rematch w/ the Buckeyes, more than likely, in Indy. Just clean up a few penalties and be a little more disciplined in gap coverage and we might get the win next time.

i agree. From what i saw, if we sharpen the game up a bit, we could stand a chance against them the second time around. Keep improving every week and stay healthy.

Whatever happened in other parts of the country doesn't change what an OSU win would have "meant".

I think it makes some sense. I mean, when Iowa is in the top 25, they get more coverage. Being in the top 25 helps recruiting.

It would be tougher to take if Iowa just handed OSU the game with turnovers and penalties, that wasnt the case. They just got beat in the 4th.

Very true. I mean we never forced them to punt one time. How are you going to win a game if you literally cannot stop the opponent on third down?

That's what I was thinking. Baby steps to beating Ohio State. Might need to force a punt (maybe two) before we start talking about actually winning the game. I don't think Iowa was quite as close as we'd like to believe.

Good post. Tighten up a few things. Execute better. Win games. Simple.
