Minnesota WR Rashod Bateman Opts Out of Season

Weird, not unexpected. Is he a top 3 round guy? Missing an entire season has not really worked out well for players in the past... like guys who were forced to do it. Voluntarily seems crazy, but it's not likely that we even have a season so what the hey?

Definitely Top 3 rounds and I would say good shot at Round 1. Last year's draft was WR heavy. Not as many this year.

Round one consensus

This year is going to be viewed differently so I think you can throw out how it has worked for players skipping a year in the past. (For whatever reason).

Probably a wise decision on his part. Tough break for Minny. They have some good receivers but you can't replace a first round talent.

Decent chance there's a combine and pro day before next draft. Guy already has outstanding film. I don't think this hurts his stock much, if at all.

Alaric Jackson gonna bounce?
He kinda had to play his way into the first couple rounds I think. Hence why he came back to start with I think. He may have been a later round guy this last one. He needs to put a solid year on tape. Physically he's more then good. He's just gotta show it more consistently. That PSU DE Gross Matos kinda ate his lunch last yr at times.

True, but in all fairness Gross Matos was a freak with more talent and physicality than Epenesa. I think he'd eat anyone's lunch. I just ask the question because I see a ton of mocks with Jackson in the first round.

If (when) the season gets shut down or severely neutered, at that point it's like playing in a bowl game, not worth the injury. Especially at his position where knees and ankles end most people's careers.

Yeah Matos was the real deal it just woulda been great for Jacksons hype machine to have some solid tape against a guy like that to put out there. That's kinda the difference between being a 1st rounder and falling. It takes more then just winning the underwear Olympics. Hell Wirfs won that part of the deal last yr and was still the 4th tackle taken. (Which was better for him in the short and long term) For whatever reasons some nitpicked his play. I think there's a lot to nitpick on with Jackson. But dude has potential though. A solid season and he's a top 10 pick hands down. Without that it's anyones guess I suppose.

With all due respect to what Fleck has done so far, I don’t think the Gophs are quite at the “elite level of the B1G as he claims in his tribute to Bateman.

I wouldn’t even consider Iowa to be elite. I would put Ohio State and Wisconsin on that level, maybe Penn State. Fleck has some work to do against Iowa and Wisconsin and the power schools in the East before he can claim Minnesota is an elite team. He got Bucky two years ago and Penn State last year so that’s a start.

Not sure how I feel about Tanner Morgan. That receiving group they rolled out last year was pretty impressive, now it is depleted. Did Morgan make them or was he boosted by 3 guys who had NFL calibur talent?

yeah hard to look bad throwing to that group. one of whom was arguably a top 5 wr in the draft, and he wasn't even the best wr on their team (that's bateman). it will be interesting to see what morgan does this season.

He still has Autman-Bell and Douglas who were pretty good as their 3&4 WRs last year. And they got a 4* FR too. Fleck has done such a good job upgrading the skill position talent there. But losing 2 of the top 5 WRs in the B1G is a killer.

The key for Morgan will be what he does when teams take away the short and intermediate slant routes that he lived off last season.

Iowa did a good job limiting them. Wisconsin completely shut them down. Both teams gave up shots over the top doing so but refused to let Minnesota kill them all game with those routes.

PSU and Auburn looked like they never seen a slant route and Minnesota's offense was going up and down the field on both.
