Minnesota Beats Purdue - Jeff Brohm

I have to tell you, this guy gets away with a lot. Purdue scores what would be the winning touchdown, but it gets called back for offensive pass interference. It was the right call...the angles of the replay didn't show it as well as what the official saw. The problem is that the official waited to throw the flag. The TE pushed off by extending his arm to create separation getting out of his break...that's interference. It clearly slowed the DB and gave him separation. Was it egregious? No...but it was offensive pass interference. Purdue throws an interception on the next play.

Brohm acted like a wounded child after the game. Man up Jeff. Him complaining about PI calls is rich. Purdue got away with an egregious PI on Ragaini to end the Iowa game. His guy had his hand on Ragaini for 10 yards pulling the shoulder pad. You didn't see KF pissing and moaning in his press conference. He did with the league though in private I'm sure. Brohm knows about what he got away with too.

Here's the problem Brohm...what are you doing in a one score game against a depleted Minny team (ton of starters out) that completely sucks defensively? That's what you should be asking yourself...instead of whining about one call. Your team pissed the game away because you missed two field goals and didn't score TDs against a shitty defense....and your defense couldn't stop anything.

I thought so at first too...but there is one angle that shows the TE push off...and get separation...and it clearly helped him separate...that's interference. Purdue's defense was terrible...we watched Minnesota last week...and they were down 5-6 starters last night.

I'd love to see that angle...looked pretty ticky tack from everything I've seen. That said, Purdue blew a couple of chances (esp the chip shot field goal)

Spot on. Its not like we haven't ever gotten screwed playing Purdue.

The official was in perfect position to see the forearm extend. If the official is in position that's all you can ask for. Its not like an official threw a flag from forty yards away.

It reminds me of something baseball umpire Ron Luciano once said. He said there are many instances on plays at home plate when a sliding runner's leg goes over the plate without touching it. But that the only one in the ballpark who is in position to see it is the home plate umpire.

That was over 40 years ago. Now I'm sure with cameras everywhere and video technology this is not quite as true as it was in Luciano's day. But last night you would have needed a reverse angle cam or a pylon cam to see what the official did.

Purdue was still in great position to at least tie the game. But they didn't. And that interception wasn't on the official and neither was the earlier missed field goal.

Brohm was a complete douche. He rode that official and you could tell his rant was expletive filled and nasty. It went on for 10 minutes on the sideline, then he went after him after the game too. You have to suspend that type of behaviour. I get he didn't agree with the call, and it's likely he didn't see the push off...but it was there. My guess is that he may temper his outrage after he sees a few angles on the replay. The receiver gained an advantage and separation by pushing off. That's interference. Now, that type of push off (it was well done and likely taught) probably gets called 25% of the time.

Listen...I like to see PT Barnum (Fleck) lose every game...but last night...I actually enjoyed seeing Purdue lose. I'm telling you, even with Moore, we beat that team 9 times out of 10 right now.

There was another missed FG at the end of the first half too. They called it a blocked kick but it didn't get six feet off the ground.

As for the PI, I'm a little torn. I do think it was technically the right call but it is a tough one at that point in the game. If I were a Purdue fan, I'd be pissed, no doubt.

I seem to remember a Purdue receiver getting away with an egregious push-off on Riley Moss for a touchdown that played a big part in their win over us in a very close game. Must have been 2018.

These things have a way of balancing out.

Most of you may remember George Kittle getting called for extending the forearm in the Super Bowl (which believe it or not was played in this calendar year but thats another story for another thread) It was a big call at the time because Kittle would have caught a pass for about forty yards.

The other thing...Minnesota is going to get killed when they play Wisconsin and NW in the next two games. Holy crap that's going to be ugly against Wisconsin's running game. Wisky will be able to score as many points as they want to. You will definitely see if there is any bad blood between Fleck and Chryst. I could see Chryst going for some style points.

Minnesota has really dropped off on the DL...they are going to need to get some transfers. They couldn't get pressure and when they did, their DL is slow...and Plummer was running circles around them...and Plummer isn't Mike Vick, if you know what I mean.

If I was still in college I would have been royally pissed. I remember the Sports Column nearly turning into a riot in 1989 when Roy Marble hit an apparent game winning basket off a home run pass and it was waved off and replay showed the Williams Arena clock operator started the clock before Marble touched the ball.

Now I'm more rational. Purdue lost last night because they shot themselves in the foot multiple times and left points on the field. Just like Iowa’s free throw shooting, not the clock operator, cost them at Minnesota all those years ago.

Good for the Hawks if you start trying to count how Purdue, Northwestern get to 3 losses, Wisconsin to lose at least one other, etc. Haven't looked at three-way ties at 2 losses for NW, Iowa, Wisconsin with NW over Iowa, Iowa or Wisconsin and Wisconsin over NW. Need an upset of or two over NW somewhere out of IL, MSU, MN...go Gophers

Purdue got absolutely jobbed. That was a love tap not a push off and did not impact the DB. That official should be suspended for completely changing the outcome of the game.

Seriously, there was one angle on that play that showed the extension and the impact it had. All the other angles didn't pick it up because his arm extension wasn't visible. I know it was a marginal call...but it wasn't nothing and I get why the call was made.

I thought it was a bad call but agree Bohm is an asshole

The call on Purdue was a ticky tack bullshit call, but on the drive before that, Minnesota got called for a ridiculous PI penalty that bailed Purdue out. I think that flag was a makeup call for that earlier bad call.
