I tend to be a little more optimistic going into seasons. This year is no different. You have to replace great players every year in CFB. The most difficult position to replace is your QB...we aren't doing that...and we are returning a guy that threw 26 tds. The OL will be better IMO. Sure, you lost an NFL player and another really solid guard...tough losses for sure. With that said, you have two tackles that are going to be much much better (once Wirfs is back)...having had the learning year...and another spring/fall camp to hone technique. They will also be working against NFL defensive ends every day in practice. If you don't think that speeds your learning curve, you are sorely mistaken.
Linebacker is the only position group that concerns me. The good thing here is that we have talent and solid recruits waiting their turn. This will not be like the group that replaced Morris, Hitchens, and Kirksey. We have much better options than Alston & Spellman (a freshman). Guys who are entering their third year on campus and who have all the measurables. I loved me some Josey Jewell, but the toughest guy to replace is going to be Neiman and once again, who better to replace him than his brother...a faster version of the original.
You can also point to DT...but if we stay healthy (Lattimore/Nelson)....we will be fine. I think the rotation will be solid and you know someone will step up.
I still think there are three games that will be really difficult to win. Wisconsin, Penn State, & Purdue (on the road). Inevitably, they will win one of those three and lose one they shouldn't. 9-3 is my call, but this could very well be 10-2 also.
