CO-DEFENSE: Michigan State LB Greg Jones and Iowa DL Mike Daniels

Jones recorded the first two interceptions of his career and added a forced fumble to help Michigan State sprint to a 42-0 lead over Northern Colorado after three quarters. The senior linebacker recorded four tackles to move into fifth place in school history with 392 career defensive stops. Both of Jones' picks led to touchdowns, as he returned his first interception 34 yards to set up MSU’s first score. He picked off his second pass in the second quarter to set up another touchdown, giving the Spartans a 28-0 lead.

Daniels recorded four tackles for loss, including a 7-yard sack, to help Iowa blank Ball State in a 45-0 victory. The junior defensive tackle collected six tackles on the day, and his four tackles for loss pushed the offense back 20 yards. He was part of a defense that collected two takeaways and allowed only 56 passing yards, the second-fewest yards through the air allowed in 11-plus years under head coach Kirk Ferentz.

Tough crowd, the Big 10 is...didn't Daniels win National Defensive Lineman of the Week AND National Defensive Player of the Week, yet he can't even get POTW honors in his own conference?

Well Greg Jones is a beast, and plays like it every week. But getting your first two career INT's is obviously going above and beyond the call for Jones. Otherwise his performance, while stellar by most accounts, is just another day at the office.

My incredulous tone is sarcastic at most, as Jones even returned one of those for a pick 6. I think it's great that he (Daniels) is being recognized because he truly was the best player on the defense on Saturday.

With all of the attention being paid to AC getting double/tripled teamed this year, we needed someone else on the D-line to step up and make an impact. I was certain it was going to be Karl Klug, and he has played well, but nobody on that D-line has stood out more than Mike Daniels the past two games. He has shown that he truly is THE BEAST!

Mike D played great. Hawks D played great. The thing I was most impressed with was Micah Hyde two pass break ups and a int. This is a great honor for Mike D when being singled out on a defense that played very well.
