John Beilein Says Rebounding, Transition Play Will Be Key In Iowa Game « CBS Detroit

From article:

“Arizona’s in my mind because they’re so long and rangy,” Beilein said Tuesday. “They get stretch rebounds. They send guys to the boards. It’s going to be difficult to keep them off there because they’re coming at you in droves, too. It’s so much of a transition game. Really hard to block out in transition. You’re getting back, you’re getting back, and then all of a sudden a shot goes up, and you’re trying to find somebody in a second. It’s really hard to do.

Yeah, they will have their hands full. This is an Iowa team that wants revenge for last years 28 point blow out and this game is on Marbles bucket list to win. The Hawks are chomping at the bit for tomorrow.

It may very well come down to just how well both teams do at the free throw line. I'd love to see the Hawks get another quality one but I also think in terms of how Michigan is playing right now the Hawks are going to need their A game and they will need it from everyone the full 40min.

LOL, would the other coach be from a program of lesser prestige?

I don't get what you're trying to imply or what that has to do with my statement. It was from another coach who had played a game against Arizona prior to playing against Iowa, and he said after the game that we were very similar to Arizona. Prestige doesn't enter into this.

Michigan will have their hands full.
Iowa will also have their hands full.
Will be great game. Hard to predict either way. Will be elated if we pull one, but won't go off the deep end if we drop it. Losing to NW this weekend would make me take long walk off short pier.

HUH?? I was just guessing Farleigh Dickinson because that was our Like opponent with Arizona. I thought it was funny since we both beat them by about 115 combined.

That is the way to do it. Never get too high for a win or too low for a loss. ISU stung for maybe five minutes before I had my eyes on the Wisconsin-OSU-Michigan games to open up our REAL schedule. In this conference with a team like ours you have to temper yourself as you are. My philosophy if we lose to NW is that we have to now beat MSU on the road. If you take a totally unacceptable loss you have to pick up a very unexpected win.

ESPN announcers for KY vs. TxAM game said NC contenders from the B1G are MSU and IA, so the media hype is burning hot for IA. If IA can win, the talk will be even more so. Also, Beilien said that IA is not as good as AZ but reminds him of AZ since they are long and rebounds well (he hasn't played this year's IA yet to really compare). Go Hawks!

I realize the media is showing us a lot of love right now. The comment I made was regarding a different one of our previous opponents' coach (it was Fairleigh Dickinson as libra pointed out) who said after playing Iowa that he would put Iowa in the same class as Arizona. Then libra's reply seemed to argue that the coach's statement is discredited because his team sucks, which doesn't make any sense, and now we're all on different wavelengths and the point has been lost in translation.

He misunderstood an earlier post of mine. Badly. I laughed because of how sorry I felt for FD for playing both of us and getting the exact result you'd expect against a program of their caliber. Apparently it was mistaken for some...implication? I really would like to get a look at Arizona. Does anybody know of any TV against their next strong opponent? I have a feeling this length of ours we keep hearing about will come into play tomorrow. They love to pass and they love easy shots. Our wingspans should thwart as much of that as they're capable of.

It's a message board, it happens, no worries. If we were in the same room you would have gotten the context behind the laughter. It's not that they had to play us both, both games went every bit the way you'd expect.

If it isn't, who do you think will be the team delivering the hurt? Obvious answer would be us, but 1- We haven't been dealt a halfway convincing blow yet so we're due. 2- All those close games last year, but not this game. I vaguely remember us up like 25-23 or something like that. In order to beat us down the way they did, they would have to do unspeakable things to us. And sure enough they did that and more.

All meaningless speculation aside, the pressure's on them. They are not as good as their play of late has shown. Their shooting does not match their shooting ability. Press, press, press. Force mistakes. Frustrate them. Beat them. 82-73.

IF Hawks can exorcise the Crisler demons and IF Hawks can beat MSU next Tuesday, they are not only in the driver's seat for the B1G but every word of F-4 / NC talk would be legit.

UM only lost by 2 to AZ. A convincing win by Iowa at Crisler and the nation should be sold on the comparison. That said, while I've predicted Hawks as a sweet-16 team from the git-go, don't think they're quite ready to beat Crisler, let alone for the final 2 weekends of the NCAA.
