Michigan AD talks about Rich Rod

I can't believe that Michigan would retain a coach that has had horrible defensive teams for three years.
 
I have a feeling he's gone. I didn't think that but there has been absolutely no vote of confidence. Now, if Brandon talks to Harbaugh and he doesn't want the job, then I don't know. I think if you can't get Harbaugh, you give it another year, but that also creates a huge mess. The next month or so will be interesting.

His style of play just isn't suited for the Big 10. I agree with the SEC reference. Props for the old school Dr.J pic, it's sweet ***.

How so with the exception of the defense which could be changed by the right hire at DC? Is his offense not suited for the Big Ten or what?

schematically, yeah you could make it work.....Its just Richrod's mannerism(s), demeanor, his overall approach that screams SEC.
 
His offense is fine. They have a lot of talent and a great playmaker at QB for the next 2 years. Plus Tate is a good thrower to change things up.

Why mess with that? Fire Greg Robinson, bring in a DC that can actually coach an average defense and they will be just fine.

Had they had even an average defense this year they could have easily beaten MSU, Iowa, and possible even Wisconsin. They scored on everyone except OSU.

His mannerisms, demeanor and approach are more like Bo Schembechler than either Lloyd Carr or Gary Moeller. I don't know, maybe that's the place for him but I think he could make it work here. His offensive scheme would work. It did work until they shot themselves in the foot. They couldn't score, but they certainly gained yards. You don't gain yards without having a system that is working. They also had a sophomore QB with a ton of room to grow. At this point, I don't think they should fire him, I think they should try to hire Randy Shannon or Jeff Casteel, but if they did fire him, I wouldn't be heartbroken unless they didn't get Jim Harbaugh. I don't even know who you hire if you can't get Harbaugh. I don't think anyone else gives us the outlook from next year and on that those two do.

The Defense isnt Robinson's fault. DickRod is making Robinson run the scheme that he wants. Similar to KF and Norm Parker.

Schemes are incredibly overrated. If you can get your players to do the right things, scheme doesn't matter.
 
Why wait until after the bowl game to make a decision?

If they win the bowl game, does that change anything, one way or the other?

How can he recruit with this cloud hanging over him?

I personally think that Harbaugh has told them that he won't even discuss the job until after the Stanford bowl game, and that Michigan is honoring that request.

That is the only logical explanation. Michigan wants Harbaugh and no one else, so they are playing the waiting game.

I have a good friend who lives in Ann Arbor. Most of the Michigan fans want him fired. They think he is a horrible fit there.

First of all, I don't think that is all that true. The mgoblog poll results were to keep him. Second of all this whole thing is being mismanaged.

For people who think RichRod is a bad fit, so is Brandon. I don't like what he has said in the media, but he contradicts himself too. For whatever reason, he likes Belien and has publicly endorsed him. Look at each coach, they have accomplished the same thing, one postseason appearance. What is the difference, people here live for football, literally.
If it is over for RichRod, it will not be the beginning for anyone else. Harbaugh has done a good job, but the Pac 10 has not been good since he has been there, the only thing he has done is get a really good QB and Toby Gerhart was there when he got there I believe. He is not a bad coach, but I think one that people can get over-excited about because it is Stanford, you know they aren't suppose to be good, but they have been before, it has been a springboard to the NFL for the coaches who have won there consistently. I just don't see him at Michigan and I think if RichRod overhauls his defensive staff he gets one more year and the Michigan fans I know are already moved from Harbaugh and want Michigan to hire Urban Meyer after next season. Their logic is that the offense will not change and he will get better players on defense.
